India‘s recent sensation Suryakumar Yadav is currently on his first away tour, in Sri Lanka, as part of the national side, and his second series after making T20I debut against England and sparkling there in the two innings he batted in.

Suryakumar Yadav, 30, hit a match-winning 31-ball 57 in his first international innings, and followed it up with a 17-ball 32. He is now straightaway touted to be part of India’s playing eleven, taking up a position in the middle-order in the T20 World Cup.

However, his success in the two international innings and the liking he has garnered have come from his exploits with the Mumbai Indians since 2018. 512 runs in 2018, followed by 424 in 2019 and 480 in 2020 – helping MI to the titles in the last two seasons – has helped him gain vital experience and calmness while going into international cricket.

However, now, Suryakumar Yadav may not feature for MI from next season, as according to recent reports the franchises will be allowed to retain a maximum of 4 players going into the mega-auction ahead of IPL 2022.

With skipper Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah the first three certain choices, and Kieron Pollard as the likely fourth-choice, or young Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav may not be retained – but he can be bought back in the auction, however, that would be for a huge price.

The right-hander, in a virtual press conference in Sri Lanka, was asked about the same. He said that the players are still conjecturing over this news and that this is not announced by the board.

He also stated that his focus is currently on the upcoming limited-overs matches against Sri Lanka, and doesn’t want to waver his focus on anything other than that.

“Not really. I think this news came yesterday. We are still trying to find out if it’s true or no. But yeah when you play for India the emotion is completely different. I think when you play for India, you don’t think about anything else.

“You are representing your country..the feeling is completely different so, at that time, you can’t think about what’s happening back home. So everyone is really focused and raring to go,” Suryakumar Yadav said.

The India-Sri Lanka ODI series commences on July 13, followed by ODIs on July 16 and 18; the T20I series is slated for July 21, 23, and 25. All games will be held in Colombo.
