Abhinav and Klassy got us to a good total, but we couldn't get through this innings - Pat Cummins

Being invited to bat first in the match, SRH had a nightmarish outing as they were reduced to 35/5 before Heinrich Klaasen (71) and Abhinav Manohar (43) staged a comeback with a 99-run partnership and helped SRH post 143/8 on the board.

Defending the total, Jaydev Unadkat dismissed Ryan Rickelton in the second over while Zeeshan Ansari and Eshan Malinga removed Will Jacks and Rohit Sharma, but the run-chase was completed in 15.4 overs.

Speaking after the match, Pat Cummins said that Abhinav Manohar and Heinrich Klaasen helped them register a good score, but they needed someone else as well to steady the ship. He said:

"Abhinav and Klassy got us to a good total, but we couldn't get through this innings. Needed a guy to really steady the ship."

In T20, the margins are also very little, you need to perform on the given day - Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins further said the level of competition is very high in the Indian Premier League, and margins are also very low in T20 cricket. He said:

"(On the pitch) You have to build your innings here, if you face a few balls you can catch up. (On the competition in the IPL) Difference between our first game where we got 280 odd and then on the same surface we got rolled over. In T20, the margins are also very little, you need to perform on the given day.

Pat Cummins, in the end, talked about the journey ahead for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and said:

"(On the road ahead) We have a few away games now, it will be about assessing each wicket as quickly as possible. Some days it will be all out attack, some days it will be about weighing our options."

How did SRH perform in the previous IPL match against MI?

Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a four-wicket defeat to Mumbai Indians in their previous IPL 2025 encounter at Wankhede Stadium on April 17. Batting first on a slow surface, SRH posted 162/5, which was easily chased by MI.

After being invited to bat first, openers Abhishek Sharma (40 off 28) and Travis Head (28 off 29) gave SRH a decent start, putting on 59 runs for the first wicket. However, both struggled in the middle and couldn’t capitalize fully on the fielding errors made by MI.

Abhishek Sharma was dismissed by Hardik Pandya in the 8th over, Head's scratchy knock came to an end in the 12th over, while Ishan Kishan was stumped in the 9th over.

Heinrich Klaasen’s 37 off 28 provided some late impetus, while Aniket Verma (18* off 8) and skipper Pat Cummins (8* off 4) chipped in with valuable runs as SRH ended up with a respectable total.

Defending the total, the SRH bowling unit couldn't get the job done. Despite a decent bowling performance led by Pat Cummins (3/26) and Eshan Malinga (2/36), SRH couldn’t defend their total, and MI chased the target down with 11 balls to spare.
