India captain Rohit Sharma has said the team management is yet to finalize the 15-member squad for this year’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The marquee event is scheduled to take place in June in the West Indies and the United States of America.
Rohit Sharma’s comments came on Wednesday (January 17) after the conclusion of the three-match IND vs AFG T20I series against Afghanistan. The Men in Blue clean swept the three-match series by registering a thrilling win in the third game. The series was India‘s last T20I assignment before the T20 World Cup.
The series also marked the return of Rohit Sharma as well as Virat Kohli to the T20Is. Both of the players were looking doubtful for the T20 World Cup but are now set to play in the marquee event. Speaking at the end of the game, Rohit was asked about India’s squad for the World Cup. In reply, the India skipper told JioCinema:
“We have not finalized the 15-member squad but there are 8-10 players in our minds – so we will make our combination according to the conditions – In West Indies, the conditions are slow so we will have to pick accordingly.”

Rohit Sharma starred with the bat in the third T20I. After failing to open his account in the first two games, the right-handed batsman scored a whirlwind century in the third game before playing a huge role in the two super overs as well.
His unbeaten knock of 121 runs helped India pile up a big total of 212 runs. After Afghanistan also scored 212 runs before scoring 16 runs in the first over, Rohit Sharma hit two sixes in the super over to put India in the driver’s seat.
However, Yashasvi Jaiswal could not score two runs on the final ball and the super over was tied too. In the second super over, he hit a six and a four to help India collect 11 runs before Ravi Bishnoi picked up 2 wickets for just 1 run to propel India to a thrilling win.
“I don’t remember when was the last time this happened. I think I batted 3 times in one of the IPL games. Creating the partnership was important and we (Rinku and I) kept talking to each other to not lose that intent in big games and it was a good game for us to be in, the pressure was there and was important to bat long and deep and not compromise on the intent we want to show,” said Rohit after the game as he praised Rinku Singh who remained unbeaten on 69.
