Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee Zaka Ashraf shared an update regarding Babar Azam’s future as the national team captain. Zaka Ashraf stated that the decision concerning Babar Azam’s captaincy is not solely within his purview.

Babar Azam‘s captaincy has come under scrutiny following the team’s disappointing performances in the ICC World Cup 2023. The Men in Green secured only four wins out of eight matches they played, including a loss to the lower-ranked team, Afghanistan.

Decision Is Not The Chairman’s Alone – Zaka Ashraf

In a recent media conference, Zaka Ashraf clarified that the decision regarding Babar Azam’s captaincy is not solely his to make. Ashraf highlighted that the final decision will be made based on the consultation of the technical committee.

“It is not my decision, there is a full technical committee in which Misbah-ul-Haq and Hafeez are present. We will move forward based on their advice. This decision is not the chairman’s alone; we will proceed based on the consultation of technical experts who are also cricketers,” Zaka Ashraf said.

The Pakistan team had a strong start to the World Cup 2023, securing wins against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. However, they experienced four consecutive losses in the tournament. In their previous game, they registered a 21-run victory against New Zealand.

Babar Azam Is A Great Captin – Zaka Ashraf

The PCB chairman expressed his optimism for Babar Azam’s success, hoping that the team would bring glory to Pakistan by winning a trophy for the nation.

“Babar Azam is a great captain and a very good player. We pray that he succeeds and brings a trophy for Pakistan,” he concluded.

The Men in Green currently occupy the fifth spot in the mega-event with 8 points. The Babar Azam-led team is scheduled to play their next match against England on November 11 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Their qualification chances depend on other teams’ results.

Pakistan will likely be eliminated from the tournament if they fail to win their upcoming match against England on Saturday. The Babar Azam-led team needs to win by a huge margin in their last match in Kolkata if New Zealand beats Sri Lanka in the group stage.
