Wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has responded to Stuart Broad’s recent comments that England will face “the worst Australian team since 2010” in the upcoming Ashes 2025-26. The Australian cricketer dismissed the remark, saying that Broad and his team would have to “wait and see” in next month’s series.

Broad responded to David Warner’s 4-0 prediction in Australia’s favor, calling the current Australian Test side “the worst since 2010.” Speaking on his podcast For The Love of Cricket, Broad said that the English squad is their strongest in 15 years, while Australia’s lineup is the weakest since England’s last Ashes win.

"You wouldn’t be outlandish in thinking – it’s actually not an opinion, it’s a fact – it’s probably the worst Australian team since 2010 when England last won. And it’s the best English team since 2010,” Broad had said on his podcast For The Love Of Cricket.

I Guess We Will Wait And See - Alex Carey

When asked about Stuart Broad’s remarks, Alex Carey warned against underestimating Australia. Carey emphasized that the Australian side, led by Pat Cummins, is a successful unit that has consistently performed at a high level over the past few years.

“No comment, is that what he said, did he? I guess we will wait and see. All the guys have played against Stuart in the past and we know how big a competitor he is and how much he’s done for Test cricket,” he said when asked about Broad’s comments.

“We have a really experienced cricket team who has had a lot of success over the last three to four years under Patty Cummins," he added.

Some of Australia’s Greatest Test players Are In - Alex Carey

Alex Carey highlighted Australia’s recent achievements, including winning the World Test Championship, retaining the Ashes in England, and reaching another WTC final earlier this year. He added that the squad never feels written off, crediting their resilience, experience, and strong leadership.

“To win a World Test Championship, to retain the Ashes over there, to make another World Test Championship earlier this year was a pretty good recognition for the success this team has had," Carey continued.

“I think internally the boys don’t think they are written off, I just think this group has been able to overcome any challenge that has come their way. And that is through experience, great leadership, amazing players. Some of Australia’s greatest Test players are in this Test team at the moment.”

Not Much Changes For the Group - Alex Carey

The wicketkeeper batter expressed confidence in Australia’s squad depth. Carey stated that even if Pat Cummins misses the upcoming match, the team has capable players ready to step up. He also backed Steve Smith to seamlessly assume the captaincy if needed.

“And I think we have seen that with Scott Boland, his record without playing consecutive Test matches regularly speaks volumes to that there are a number of guys, someone comes out and you definitely have someone coming in that will do a really good job,” Carey said.

“Not much changes if Pat does come out of the team, Steve has experience and he is excited to step in the role and he has a great tactical brain. But not much changes for the group.”
