West Indies hosts South Africa for a three-match T20I series after losing the Test series. All the matches will be played will be played in Trinidad. The first T20I will be played on August 24 from 12.30 am IST.

West Indies did not qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023 Following that, they did not qualify for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup at home.

As a side, they have come down the charts in T20 cricket in the last few years. They did not qualify beyond the first round in the T20 World Cup 2022 as well.

Despite not achieving too much success in the format in the last few years, this remains their favorite format in the game. Heading into this series, they have opted to rest Andre Russell and Jason Holder as a part of their workload management.

Despite not having the seasoned all-rounders, West Indies have managed to put together a competitive squad that can challenge the Protead in home conditions. In this article, we predict West Indies playing XI for the first T20I against South Africa.

Johnson Charles

Charles the hard-hitting opener can open the batting for West Indies. He hits the ball really hard and can hit from ball one. He also has a T20I century to his name.

Shai Hope

Hope will open the batting for West Indies. He is a more technically correct batter than the two openers. Hope has established himself as an ODI and Test batter but he is yet to find his groove in T20I cricket for West Indies.

Roston Chase

Chase can slot in at three. he is another all-rounder in the lineup who can bat and ball and be of immense value to their side.

Nicholas Pooran (WK)

Pooran can slot in at four. He is the top-scorer in the format for West Indies among the current batters in the side. He has also led the T20I side in the past.

Shimron Hetmyer

Hetmyer can slot in at five. He missed out on playing the T20 World Cup for the hosts but has been recalled into the side. He has played 57 T20I matches and inching closer to 1000 T20I runs.

Rovman Powell (C)

Powell will slot in at six. He is a proper batter but plays as a finisher in the side. There have been debates in the past on whether he should move up the batting order. He recently led the side in the T20 World Cup at home.

Fabian Allen

Allen too missed the T20 World Cup and has been recalled into the side. He can play as an all-rounder and can be one of the three spinners in the playing XI.

Akeal Hosein

Hosein is the specialist spinner in the XI. He played in the recent T20 World Cup but could not perform to his potential in the tournament.

Shamar Joseph

Joseph can be one of the two pacers in the side. He made his T2I debut when South Africa played against West Indies earlier this year in May. He has picked up three wickets in three matches.

Obed McCoy

McCoy will be the second pacer in the XI. He is a left-arm pacer with a lot of variations and is used primarily at the death both in national and franchise T20 cricket.

Gudakesh Motie

Gudakesh Motie concludes the West Indies lineup for the first T20I. He is the fourth spinner in this XI and the third left-arm spinner. Motie has picked up 21 wickets from 15 T20I matches so far.
