West Indies, on Wednesday (July 17), announced their playing eleven for the upcoming second Test of the ongoing three-match series against England. The second Test is scheduled to be played from Thursday (July 18) at Trent Bridge.
The tourists have named an unchanged playing eleven even for the do-or-die clash even after suffering a heavy defeat in the first Test. England had inflicted an innings defeat in less than three days on West Indies in the series opener but the latter's team management has decided to show faith in the players for at least one more game.
Earlier, England had confirmed their playing eleven as well. The hosts have made one change to the playing due to the retirement of James Anderson. Fast-bowler Mark Wood has replaced Anderson in the England playing XI.
West Indies look to bounce back:
West Indies will be looking to bounce back and win the second Test to draw level in the three-match series. The visitors had suffered a crushing defeat in the first Test at Lord's last week and will have to improve their performance by leaps and bounds to challenge their fancied hosts.
West Indies could not even touch the 150-run mark in either of the two innings as England thrashed them by an innings and 114 runs in just over two days. Asked to bat first, the Kraigg Brathwaite-led side was bowled out for just 121 runs with none of the players reaching 30 runs.
Debutant Mikyle Louis top-scored for them in the first innings, scoring 27. For England, Gus Atkinson starred with the ball on his debut. The right-arm pacer picked up 7 wickets for just 45 runs to blow West Indies away.
In reply, England scored 321 runs with Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Harry Brook, Joe Root and Jamie Smith scoring fifties. In the second innings, West Indies were bowled out for just 136 runs as the batsmen disappointed again. For England, Atkinson made the difference with the ball again, taking 5 wickets while Anderson picked up 3.
