New Zealand will face the West Indies in the first of the three-match ODI series. This article provides details about the West Indies' Playing 11 vs New Zealand for the first match of the series.

West Indies Playing XI vs New Zealand- 1st ODI, West Indies Tour of New Zealand 2025:

Openers: Alick Athanaze, John Campbell

The visitors, Windies, would like to get over the disappointment of the T20I series and put on a strong performance in the ODI series against New Zealand in all three aspects during the first match.

The former ODI World Cup winners are coming into the series with a loss against Bangladesh in the previous ODI series that the West Indies featured in.

Windies would hope for the batters to come good if the Men in Maroon want to have a good chance of winning the match in question against a strong New Zealand bowling lineup that has got all its bases covered.

The onus will be on the West Indies' openers to get the team off to a good start and score runs individually as well.

The opening pair of Alick Athanaze and John Campbell, who return to the ODI setup after 2019, would back themselves to do the job.

Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Keacy Carty, Shai Hope (wk/c), Roston Chase, Ackeem Auguste, Sherfane Rutherfoard, Romario Shepherd, Matthew Forde

The opening duo will be followed by a middle order which, although it comprises experienced names like that of captain Shai Hope, Roston Chase but hasn't been able to perform consistently, something it would like to rectify.

To add to that, they are heavily dependent on the above-mentioned names, given the lack of experience with the likes of Keacy Carty, Ackeem Auguste have courtesy of playing a handful of games at the international level.

The top six make the core of any batting lineup in international cricket, and the captain would want it to come good in the first ODI against New Zealand.

A lot will depend on how Shai Hope performs with the bat, as he hasn't been able to come good in the majority of the matches on this tour so far and would wish to start the ODI series on a positive note.

Hope would also require support from other batters in order to help West Indies post an above-par total on the board while batting first.

Bowlers: Khary Pierre, Jayden Seales

West Indies' bowlers will have their task cut out and will have to be right on the money from the first ball, considering the depth that New Zealand's batting lineup possesses.

The onus will be on the fast bowlers to do the bulk of the damage, given that there might not be enough help for the spinners.

West Indies' bowling lineup includes names like Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd, and Matthew Forde in the fast bowling department.

As far as the spin bowling arsenal of the Men in Maroon is concerned, it comprises Roston Chase and Kharry Pierre, who will be entrusted to keep things tight from their end.
