England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan has heaped praise on Indian pacer Mohammed Shami. Morgan said that Shami has added extra value to India’s strength in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The Men in Blue will lock horns with the Aussies in the final of the World Cup 2023. The match will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19.

Speaking to Sky Sports Cricket, Eoin Morgan admired Mohammed Shami’s control in the World Cup. Mohammed Shami is the leading wicket-taker of the ongoing World Cup 2023. He has 23 scalps to his name in just six matches with an average of 9.13.

“I’ve faced him over the years, and you would have to say his level of accuracy he continues to produce brings a level of predictability, but also when you’re channeling your focus in on doing one single thing it allows very little margin for error. The level of control he has shown throughout this tournament to move the ball off the seam and in the air has been great to admire,” said Morgan.

Eoin Morgan Praises Mohammed Shami’s Ability To Deliver Under Pressure

The former England skipper went on to praise Shami’s performance in the semi-finals against New Zealand. Mohammed Shami registered the best-ever figures by an Indian in ODIs after claiming seven wickets against New Zealand in the semi-finals.

“Seven for 57 in a one-day international is unheard of, particularly in a World Cup knock-out game where there is a huge amount of pressure on him. He comes on, goes bang-bang, and all of a sudden has them back in the game and just does it with ease. To have someone like that at your disposal for Rohit Sharma adds more value to the strength of India,” Morgan added.

India is currently unbeaten in this World Cup with ten straight wins. However, Australia is also enjoying an eight-match unbeaten run in this World Cup as they are gearing up to extend their record by becoming a six-time World champion. Meanwhile, India has an opportunity to become only the second nation with at least three World Cup titles.

India and Australia will face each other in the finals of the ODI World Cup for a second time. The first finale face-off between these two nations happened back in 2003 when Ricky Ponting-led Australia bamboozled India and won the World Cup.
