India’s young pace sensation, Kartik Tyagi has taken lots of learning from the almost tw0 month-long Australia tour despite not making it into India’s playing eleven. Kartik, who was taken as a net bowler to Australia, might have fancied his chances to make a Test debut as injuries galore in the Indian dressing room.

However, the left-arm pacer, T Natarajan, was given the nod ahead of the Rajasthan Royals pacer. Natarajan in fact became the first Indian to make his debut in all three formats on a single tour – the Sunrisers Hyderabad seamer also went to Australia as a net bowler!

After returning to India, Kartik Tyagi says that he is happy to be a part of the squad which won the Test series in Australia. The youngster felt extremely proud when Ajinkya Rahane, who was the stand-in skipper for Virat Kohli, appreciated him.

In a video released by the BCCI, after the victory at the Gabba, Ajinkya Rahane mentioned Kuldeep Yadav and Kartik Tyagi and lauded their efforts to support other team members despite both not playing a single Test match in the series.

“The main thing was we went to Australia, and we beat Australia. I was present there. When he (Rahane) mentioned my name, it was a very proud moment. To be part of that team was a dream. And I hope that in the future, I will also be able to bowl India to wins in matches,” Kartik Tyagi told The Indian Express.

Learned so much by watching, listening, and talking: Kartik Tyagi

Kartik Tyagi, who made his IPL debut last season for Rajasthan Royals and picked up 9 wickets in 10 games, reckons he learned plenty of stuff about bowling and field setting by watching and talking with other pacers. The 20-year-old has picked the brains of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj in the dressing room.

The right-arm speedster has been retained by the Rajasthan Royals for the IPL 2021. He will also be seen in action for his state, Uttar Pradesh in domestic.

“How to plan for a session, how to set fields, how to bowl to a field. I learned so much by watching, listening, and talking. I spoke to everyone I could. Talking to (Jasprit) Bumrah, watching Pat Cummins bowl or Mohammed Siraj making his debut was a great experience,” he added.

“(I learned) The importance of being patient and sticking to the plan. Two of the best teams in the world are playing Test cricket, you are present, watching and listening and seeing so many things. I could not have asked for more. How the team discussed all the plans and then how it played out in the ground, was so inspirational,” the pacer further said.
