Mohammed Siraj will always be remembered for his mayhem in the Asia Cup 2023 final, when he picked a 6-wicket haul to bundle out Sri Lanka for just 51 and drive Team India to the trophy. Due to his destruction of Sri Lanka on their home soil, there are no doubts even Sri Lanka fans will remember him for a long time.
Mohammed Siraj is a right-arm pacer. Mohammed Siraj has cemented his place in Team India on the back of his bounce and pace attack.
He was born in Hyderabad on March 13, 1994. Born to an auto-rickshow driver, Mohammed Siraj's success story is a motivating one. He has only one sibling- an elder brother who is an engineer.
Siraj made his international debut in 2017 and has been a regular member of the side since then. He made his international debut in a T20I match in November 2017, finishing with poor figures of 1-53. He was in and out of the team for a few years.
The right-arm got his first break when he clinched a 5-wicket haul in the historic Gabba Test in January 2021, where a young Indian team outplayed Australia to win the series. Post India's triumph, Siraj grabbed a lot of limelight with his performance.
During India’s tour of England in 2021, Mohammed Siraj picked four-wicket hauls in the historic Lord's Test, where India bounced back from a struggling position to win the match.
The match is remembered for India’s lethal pace attack on England's batters at their home. Team India gained a 2-1 lead in a four-match series to dominate the Englishmen on their home soil.
Mohammed Siraj reached his peak at the start of 2023 when he became the No.1 ODI bowler in the ICC rankings. He later played in the Asia Cup 2023 and also the ODI World Cup 2023. In Asia Cup 2023 final vs Sri Lanka, Siraj became the first Indian bowler to grab 4 wickets in a single over.
In the Indian Premier League, Mohammed Siraj was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2015 to 2017 seasons. However, Royal Challengers Bengaluru captured him for Rs. 2.6 crore in IPL 2018. The franchise has retained him over the years and Siraj has become a crucial unit of RCB's pace attack.
His best season to date was the IPL 2023 when he grabbed 19 wickets- his best tally in any IPL season so far. Notably, 2023 was a fantastic year for Mohammed Siraj. Mohammed Siraj rose to the top ICC rankings in ODIs and won player of the match in the Asia Cup 2023 final.
