The recently-concluded Test series between India and Australia was definitely one of the most competitive series played in recent years. Both the teams gave it their all on the field and eventually India emerged as the winners with a 2-1 margin. But while the action on the field was lauded by one and all, the action off the field hogged some limelight too.
The reported displeasure of the Indian team over the strict quarantine in Brisbane, the racism incident in Sydney, few Indian players eating in a restaurant were some of the controversies that took place during the series. But while these incidents made it to the news, another incident that took place in the hotel did not.
According to India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian cricketers were not allowed to enter the lift in Sydney if any member of the Australian squad was already inside it. Ravichandran Ashwin revealed the incident while speaking to India’s fielding coach R Sridhar for a video posted on his YouTube channel.
“We reached Sydney they locked us with severe restrictions. There was a unique thing that happened in Sydney. It was strange, to be honest. Both India and Australia were in the same bubble. But when Australian players were in the lift, they won’t allow Indian players inside it,” Ravichandran Ashwin said.
The star spinner further said the Indian team members ‘felt bad’ with the treatment meted out towards them during the third Test as they and the Australian cricketers were part of the same bubble.
“Seriously guys? We felt so bad at that time. We are in the same bubble. But you get into the lift and you can’t share the space with another person staying in the same bubble. It was too difficult for us to digest. We are all in the same bubble, but you get into the lift and share the lift space!” said Ravichandran Ashwin/
