The IPL 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) will take place at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, May 21. Gujarat Titans (GT), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) have secured playoff berths, and MI and DC are competing for a remaining spot.
Rain could play spoilsport in the IPL 2025 match. According to AccuWeather, there is a chance of rain and thunderstorms during the night. If the match is washed out, both teams will be awarded one point each. It would take Mumbai to 15 points and Delhi to 14 ahead of their final league fixtures.
Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals Performances in IPL 2025 So Far
Mumbai Indians are in fourth place in the IPL 2025 standings with 14 points from 12 games. They lost four of their first five matches but bounced back with six straight wins. The Hardik Pandya-led team suffered a narrow three-wicket loss to Gujarat Titans in a rain-affected contest at Wankhede.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are in fifth place with 13 points from 12 matches. The Axar Patel-led team started the season on a high note with four consecutive victories. However, DC have managed only two wins in their last eight outings. DC have failed to register a single win since April 22.
IPL 2025 Qualification Scenarios with Result and MI vs DC Clash
Mumbai will secure a playoff spot with a victory over Delhi, taking them to 16 points. DC won't reach 16 points even if they win their final game against Punjab Kings (PBKS). If MI lose, they would then need DC to be defeated by Punjab on May 24. MI must also beat PBKS themselves on May 26.
Delhi need to win both of their remaining matches to be sure of a playoff berth. They will reach 17 points with victories over Mumbai and Punjab. A loss would leave them with a maximum of 15 points. If Delhi manage to beat Mumbai but falter against Punjab, they’ll finish with 15 points.
For a playoff spot in that scenario, they would need MI to also lose their last game. That would leave Mumbai on 14, allowing DC to slip into the top four.
IPL 2025 Playoffs Qualification Scenarios if MI vs DC Match is Washed Out
If the match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals ends with no result, both teams will earn one point each. MI would reach 15 points and DC 14 points ahead of their final matches against Punjab Kings (PBKS).
The outcome of their last games against PBKS will decide who qualifies for the playoffs. If both teams win, MI will finish with 17 points and DC with 16. MI will have 15 points while DC will have 14 if both lose.
If both matches are washed out, MI still secures a playoff spot by finishing one point ahead of DC. Both MI and DC will end with 16 points and seven wins each if Delhi beats Punjab but the MI-PBKS game is abandoned. MI will have a better net run rate (+1.156) compared to Delhi’s (+0.260).
