Top effort from Indian bowlers
It was a top team effort from India as they required all their players to step up for the big game. It was Mohammed Shami who led the way with the ball with fine bowling figures of 3-48.
Spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja also chipped in with two wickets each which didn't allow Australia to get away with the game. The spinners were crucial in the middle overs as they bowled tightly despite the Australian batters playing briskly.
In the batting department, every player got starts except Shubman Gill. All the top seven batters made vital contributions with the bat, which made things slightly easier for Kohli. Rohit Sharma scored a quickfire 28 at the top but was unable to convert it into a big one.
Virat Kohli forms solid partnerships in the middle overs
Shreyas Iyer walked in after India had lost Rohit and were in desperate need of a partnership at 30-2. Shreyas Iyer provided a perfect foil for Virat Kohli as both of them showed terrific composure to keep the game going.
Both of them rotated the strike well and also put the bad balls away to the boundary. Iyer was dismissed for 45 by Adam Zampa but Axar Patel continued to maintain the momentum and played with intent.
Nathan Ellis came back into the spell to pick up Axar's wicket but the next batter KL Rahul was determined enough to take his team past the finish line. Rahul and Kohli put up another strong partnership to take the team closer.
While Kohli was dismissed during the final stages, allrounder Hardik Pandya played a quickfire knock in the end. Rahul smashed a six off Glenn Maxwell to win the match for his team and take them to the final.
