During the India vs England fourth T20I match, in a must-win game, there were two injuries for the Men in Blue side as two of their key bowlers, Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy, are missing this game due to hamstring injuries. This is a big blow for the India National Cricket Team, who are desperate to win games.
In the toss, Shreyas Iyer mentioned that there are two changes in the side, with Washington Sundar and Prasidh Krishna included in the playing XI as Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy have been out of this game after they sustained injuries during the 3rd T20I game.
Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy ruled out
Apart from being ruled out of this game, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) duo has been ruled out of the series as they will not be taking further part in the upcoming fifth and final T20I game against the Three Lions.
As per the statement from BCCI, “Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy sustained hamstring injuries in the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge. The BCCI Medical Team has assessed them and ruled them out of the 4th and 5th T20Is.”
Harshit Rana suffers another setback
Harshit Rana, since his comeback, had bowled well in Ireland and also in England. The KKR pacer will be upset to have been ruled out as he recently recovered from a knee surgery which left him out of the T20 World Cup 2026 and also the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
Rana took a total of 4 wickets against Ireland and 2 wickets against England during his international comeback. Varun's miss will hurt India, though he has not been in his best form; his match-ups against Harry Brook and other English batters have been good.
India to bat first
Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first, and stated that it is a new day and he and the team are not focusing on last day's match, where they were bowled out for the score of 76 runs. He informed that Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy were injured, with Prasidh Krishna and Washi coming back.
"We're going to bat first. It's just that we are not able to execute the plans as much as possible, but today, it's a fresh day, fresh start, and the boys are in pretty high spirits."
"(Last game is history. Have to start afresh today?) Absolutely, but when you say positive, you have to read the environment and have that sort of awareness about how the game is going. You need to adapt as quickly as possible to the wicket and where the wind is blowing."
"(And any changes in your side now that you're batting first?) We've got two changes, two injuries actually. Varun and Harshit go out, so Washington and Prasidh comes in."
