The India National Cricket Team has suffered a massive setback as KL Rahul has been ruled out of the second ODI against the England National Cricket Team on Thursday, July 16, at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. This has opened an opportunity for Ishan Kishan to prove his worth in the ODIs.

After losing the toss to England captain Harry Brook, Indian captain Shubman Gill has confirmed that Rahul is not part of the playing XI, and in his place, they have brought in Ishan for the Cardiff ODI. Ahead of the game, Abhishek Nayar reveals how Rohit Sharma responds to failures.

KL Rahul ruled out of 2nd ODI as Shubman Gill confirms illness

Speaking at the toss, Shubman Gill has confirmed that KL Rahul is sick and that’s why he was not able to take the field in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match ODI series against England at Sophia Gardens. The captain also shared that they have replaced Rahul with Ishan Kishan for the second ODI as the wicketkeeper-batter against England.

Gill said, as quoted by Cricbuzz, "KL is sick, so he misses out, and Ishan Kishan comes back in.”

Well, the Indian captain said that returning to Cardiff feels special because he had earlier played a county season for Glamorgan, and now, he hopes to deliver another memorable performance on his return. Amid this, Virat Kohli becomes third Indian with 100 SENA ODIs, joins Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni.

Gill further added, “Yes, I did. I played a season here with Glamorgan; I have very good memories there. So hopefully I will have another one to add on to those memories.”

KL Rahul failed to deliver with the bat at Edgbaston

Speaking about KL Rahul, the right-handed batter had a disappointing day with the bat in the three-match ODI series opener against England. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter managed only 1 run from 3 balls before England pacer Josh Tongue cleaned bowled him.

However, Rahul was impressive behind the stumps. He took a stunning one-handed diving catch to dismiss Will Jacks off Shivam Dube’s bowling. The spectacular catch was one of the best moments of the match with Rahul's sharp reflexes and excellent wicketkeeping skills leaving everyone stunned.

Shubman Gill and Gurnoor Brar return fully fit for 2nd ODI

Earlier, India faced a couple of injury scares during the first ODI against England. Captain Shubman Gill had to leave the field after scoring 80 runs. There was another concern when fast bowler Gurnoor Brar stopped his run-up just before the 48th over because of a fitness issue.

Axar Patel completed the over in his place. However, the good news for India was that both Gill and Gurnoor recovered well and returned fully fit for the second ODI in Cardiff against England.
