West Indies team head coach Phil Simmons said that the team is high on confidence after beating England in the Test series at home, ahead of the second Test match against Bangladesh which will be played in Gros Islet from June 24 onwards. West Indies won the first Test match in Antigua by 7 wickets.

West Indies defeated England 1-0 in the three-Test match series in March this year to clinch the maiden Richards-Botham Trophy. The trophy replaced the Wisden Trophy, which was retired after the 2020 series between the two sides.

“It’s just that guys are getting confidence in what they are doing. The more confidence they get, the easier it is to do your job and perform your role for the team. There’s a lot of confidence after winning the series against England not too long ago so confidence is there and it shows,” Simmons was quoted as saying by India Today.

Everyone Has Seen Kraigg Brathwaite’s Determination- Phil Simmons Praises The West Indies Captain

The head coach was all praises for the West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite and lauded him for his determination. He has been a significant factor in West Indies’ rise in the last 18 months. He made the highest score (94) across all four innings in the Antigua Test against Bangladesh and, according to his coach, is constantly getting better as both a player and a leader.

“Everyone has seen [Brathwaite’s] determination. His unique style. He doesn’t have a problem doing his job for five days. It is unique because a lot of batsmen nowadays like to play shots and be done with it. From his point of view, he wants to be there for the team. That rolls into the captaincy. He is not loud but the players know what he wants. He makes them understand in his unique way. He seems to be growing in the role,” Simmons told ESPNCricinfo.

With their victory on Sunday, West Indies have now won three of their eight WTC matches and are unbeaten in their last four Tests.
