Will Pucovski, Victoria’s Test-capped opener, may be out for the forthcoming Marsh Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania, which begins on Saturday, due to personal circumstances, with no indication of when he will return.
Pucovski has previously taken sabbaticals for “emotional well-being” reasons, and has also dealt with several concussions and protracted recovery from shoulder surgery following his Test debut against India in 2021.
The 24-year-old returned to Shield cricket at the close of last summer and has played two matches this season, as well as a number of Marsh One Day Cup games.

Cricket Victoria Will Continue To Assist Will Pucovski: Graham Manou
Cricket Graham Manou, Victoria’s General Manager of Cricket Performance, did not comment on the reasons for Pucovski’s extended absence but did affirm that CV will continue to offer “all essential assistance” for the young right-hander.
“Player welfare is always our top priority; we’ll continue to work with Will to ensure he gets the support and space he needs and welcome him back when he’s ready,” Manou said today.
However, he has failed to get going at the top of the order recently, with scores of 0, 9, and 37 in the Shield and five in a one-dayer against Western Australia.
He did not participate in this week’s Marsh Cup match in Launceston, and his spot in the Shield team was filled by top-order hitter Ashley Chandrasinghe, who has yet to represent his state.
