The Asia Cup 2025 is not just about cricket anymore, as it has become a battleground of words and emotions, thanks to the India-Pakistan rivalry. The tension reached new heights during the Super Four clash when a fiery verbal spat broke out between India’s young openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill and Pakistan’s pace duo Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi.
After Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi tried to get under the skin of Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, the Indian opener responded to the Pakistani bowlers strongly, especially with the bat. Rauf was particularly animated, and they didn’t shy from giving it back to the bowler in style.

I will cut his head off: Yograj Singh
Yograj stressed that he will always be beside his country. Even the former Indian cricketer reminded everyone that players on both sides deserve respect regardless of the political tension between the nations, and they must react accordingly. He further mentioned that the Pakistani players are targeted unfairly, which reflects poorly on cricket as a sport.
Yograj Singh said on SportsNow, “I will always be with my country. I am a citizen of my country. If anyone speaks against my country, I will not tolerate it. I will cut his head off. But, as far as the players are concerned, they should be respected. If your country doesn't respect us, how will the outsiders respect us?”
Yuvraj Singh's father calls out Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi for abusing Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill
Legendary Yuvraj Singh’s father, who is known for his outspoken and blunt statements, came out in defense of the Indian youngsters, saying that they were simply focused on the game and had not provoked anyone. Yograj mentioned that it was Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf who started the abuse and crossed the line with their on-field behavior, and lost their respect as athletes.
He signed off by saying, “Both the players were playing. They were not saying anything to anyone. So, the players (Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf) went and started abusing them. Neither Abhishek said anything, nor Shubham. Then what is the point of this? This is not frustration; what is it?”
