Former Indian cricketer Rohan Gavaskar lauded ace batter Virat Kohli for his ability to seamlessly switch gears and adapt to different formats. Rohan Gavaskar highlighted that Virat Kohli can make transitions from one format to another even on short notice.

Virat Kohli returned to the T20I side in the recent series against Afghanistan. The 35-year-old scored 29 runs off 16 deliveries in the second game after missing the first match for personal reasons. He displayed a great touch before he missed a shot in the second T20I.

The former Indian skipper was dismissed for a duck in the third and final match in Bengaluru. However, he made his impact with a superb save near the boundary, preventing a six. India whitewashed Afghanistan in their last T20 series before the T20 World Cup 2024.

He’ll Know Exactly How To Switch – Rohan Gavaskar

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Rohan Gavaskar highlighted Virat Kohli’s remarkable adaptability to smoothly switch gears as the situation demands. Gavaskar pointed out that if Kohli were asked to play Test cricket on short notice, he would embrace the challenge.

“Plyers of that ability and that sort of mindset know what they have to do, how they need to switch gears, and how they need to switch templates. If you suddenly wake him up tomorrow and tell him to play Test cricket, he’ll be out there grinding. If you tell him to play one day cricket after a test match, he’ll know exactly how to switch. So for him to switch from his style of batting throughout T20 to suddenly go be a little bit more aggressive, for someone of his ability, it’s not a problem. He showed that in the last T20 international,” Rohan Gavaskar.

Virat Kohli will be next seen in action during the five-match Test series against England on home soil. The right-handed batter excelled with the bat in the recent South Africa Test series, scoring 172 runs in four innings at an average of 43 in challenging conditions.

Virat Kohli Has Done Everything That Can Be Expected Of Him – Rohan Gavaskar

Rohan Gavaskar emphasized that winning a T20 trophy would be a significant accomplishment for Virat Kohli, who has excelled in all aspects expected of him in the game. Gavaskar pointed out that the most significant regret would be not securing major trophies.

“Any player who’s playing a team sport, their biggest regret will not be not winning the big trophy. It’s something that maybe is in the back of his mind, thinking I need to win a trophy. I’ve done everything else that I can in this game that can be expected of me, so winning a T20 trophy would be great,” Gavaskar stated.

Virat Kohli emerged as the leading run-scorer in the last T20 World Cup, topping the charts with 296 runs in six matches. Overall, he has amassed 4,000 runs at an impressive average of 51.76 and a strike rate of 138 from 109 innings, including 37 fifties and a century.
