Indian head coach Ravi Shastri believes that the ICC World Test Championship final stands above all the World Cups and that red-ball cricket is the real challenge for any player. India and New Zealand are currently locking horns in the ICC World Test Championship final at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Ravi Shastri believes that Test cricket is the toughest format and job satisfaction is at a maximum level

India’s incredible series win in Australia came on the back of one of the outstanding comebacks as a severely undermanned visiting side beat the hosts down under to claim their second consecutive series win. They returned home to beat England after losing the first Test convincingly and sealed their spot in the ICC World Test Championship final. New Zealand has India in the tournament decider at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

Ravi Shastri believes that the World Test Championship is the big daddy of all the World Cups, having played in the 1983 edition and commented on a few of them. The former Indian cricketer believes that Test cricket is the most challenging format of all and playing in a final is very special. Shastri also underlined that keeping the side at number one for five years is a significant achievement.

“It’s the ‘big daddy of all World Cups’. I’ve played the 1983 World Cup, commentated on a few of them but this one is the biggest of them all. It’s the toughest format, the biggest format, and the job satisfaction is maximum. There are a lot of big players who’ve not got their hands on a World Cup, so playing in a final is always special. To keep the team at number one for five years is a massive achievement,” Shastri said as quoted by India Today.

Ravi Shastri also highlighted that this is just another Test match for them and feels since there’s extra stuff attached to the encounter, the stakes become high.

“For me, this is another Test match that has to be played. These things are very exciting from the outside where there is so much importance and so much other extra stuff that’s attached to one game and it sort of becomes do-and-die,” he added.
