"Worst move BCCI" - Twitter reacts as selectors ignore Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan again for Zimbabwe T20Is

The India squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe was announced by the BCCI on Monday (June 24). The selectors have picked up a youthful side that features a number of uncapped players.

Most of the first-team players have been given a well-deserved break after a hectic few months that saw them play the IPL before participating in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. In the absence of the senior players, young Shubman Gill has been given the responsibility to lead the team.

The selectors have picked as many as 5 uncapped players in the squad. Abhishek Sharma, Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, and Tushar Deshpande have earned their maiden T20I call-ups. Barring Jurel, the other four players had a brilliant campaign in this year's IPL. Jurel, on the other hand, could not make a big impact in IPL 2024 but had performed well in his debut Test series earlier this year.

Shreyas Iyer, and Ishan Kishan snubbed again:

In another major decision, the selectors have decided to ignore Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan once again. Both the players fell out of favor with the selection panel earlier this year after failing to play in domestic games despite a directive from the BCCI. They also lost their central contracts and it looks highly unlikely that they will earn a recall soon after the latest snub.

Many were expecting them to return to the team for the Zimbabwe series as the selectors were set to name a second-string side. Iyer had a brilliant campaign in the IPL as well where he led Kolkata Knight Riders to their third title and first since 2014. Kishan managed to play a few impressive knocks as well. However, the selectors have decided against recalling the duo for the time being.
