The Women’s Premiere League (WPL) is expected to be the next big thing in Women’s franchise cricket. This league has the potential to surpass the Women’s Big Bash League & England’s Hundred. The peculiarity of this league is that 5 overseas players can take part in the playing 11 of a team.
BCCI would be hoping that India’s women’s team finds match-winners that are somewhat missing from the setup through this league. Indian Women’s Team is making huge strides in ICC tournaments but is failing at crucial moments of the match which is spoiling all the hard work of the top order batters as every time they won’t finish the match for the team.

Jon Lewis on Role
Jon Lewis released a statement and was quite excited about the new role in UP Warriors in WPL 2023
“The WPL is a huge step forward for women’s cricket globally and I am excited to be an integral part of this journey. Having Anju Jain, Ashley Noffke, and Lisa Sthalekar who bring in a diverse set of experiences to the dugout can only make the task a whole lot easier.” said Jon Lewis.
Exciting League on Cards
It won’t be wrong to say that the Capri Global Holdings (UP Warriors) franchise has got a dangerous & experienced coaching staff. Former Australian Cricketer Lisa Sthalekar’s experience would be invaluable for the youngsters in the inaugural championship. BCCI would be well aware of the fact that this league is going to clash with the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 as WPL commences from 4th March.
BCCI has allotted a purse of 12 Crores for every time where they have must have atleast 15 players in the squad and a maximum of 18. The likes of Australian & England cricketers would cherish this opportunity as playing in India has always been tough for them due to the nature of wickets. It would be interesting to see how the league unfolds as the spectators would be hoping that they witness high scoring thrillers.
