The UP Warriorz franchise has suffered a setback as Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy will miss the entire season of the Women's Premier League (WPL 2025). Alyssa Healy has opted out due to a stress injury to her right foot, just weeks before the start of the highly anticipated T20 tournament.

Healy has been battling injuries since the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, where she ruptured the plantar fascia in her right foot. She missed some WBBL games before returning to play but was sidelined again due to a knee injury. Healy led Australia in the Ashes Test, where the team achieved a historic victory.

It’s Been a Really Frustrating Probably 18 Months for Me - Alyssa Healy

Alyssa Healy played as a batter, with Beth Mooney taking over wicketkeeping duties. After the day-night match, she expressed disappointment at having to rest for a couple of months due to her injuries.

“Unfortunately for me, I’ve got a couple of months with (my) feet up, so I’m pretty bummed by that. But at the same time (I am) elated to have a little bit of downtime and try and get my body right. It’s been a really frustrating probably 18 months for me," Healy said (via Sportstar).

Just Managing Things to Get Right for That - Alyssa Healy

Alyssa Healy plans to assess a few things in her game to improve and ensure she's ready for the ODI World Cup. She acknowledged the challenge of managing her body after limited cricket in the winter. Healy also humorously mentioned looking forward to resting her feet in an ice bucket.

“You get yourself right back playing and something else goes wrong. So (I am) just going to have a look at a couple of things and how I can be better, maybe a bit more disciplined in some areas, and make sure I’m right to go in particular for that ODI World Cup," Healy said.

“It’s going to be a huge load coming off not a lot of cricket for a lot of the girls in the winter. So just managing things to get right for that. But I’m looking forward to sticking my feet in an ice bucket for a bit," she added.

UP Warriorz Need to Find a Replacement for Alyssa Healy Ahead of WPL 2025

The UP Warriorz retained Healy ahead of the mini-auction. She led the team to the Eliminator in the inaugural 2023 edition, but they failed to make the playoffs in the second season, finishing fourth. The franchise has confirmed that Healy will not participate in the WPL 2025, starting on February 14.

The Warriorz are set to begin their campaign on February 16 against Gujarat Giants in Vadodara. They will need to find a replacement for her at the top of the order and appoint a new captain. After the 2024 edition, they released England’s Lauren Bell and traded Danni Wyatt to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
