Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has heaped high praise on Indian wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha following the latters recent statement on Rishabh Pant.

During a recent interview with Sportskeeda, Wriddhiman Saha admitted that Rishabh Pant deserves to be Team India’s first-choice keeper and that he will wait for his turn.

According to Butt, the statement is not only a reflection of the down-to-earth nature of Saha but it also reflects the professionalism in the Indian cricket system.

“Such things come out when you are true professionals. This is not an easy thing. Hats off to Wriddhiman Saha. I know him, we played together for the Knight Riders in the inaugural IPL. He is a very down-to-earth guy and he has said a fantastic thing. It shows his nobility, that he has spoken like that,” said Butt.

Salman Butt further highlighted Wriddhiman Saha’s statement, stating that his thought process reflects the security that the Indian cricket system has instilled in its players.

“When you don’t feel insecure and you don’t have hesitation in saying what is better for the team, that means your system, policies and grooming have won because you realize that you are also there but at the moment the other person is better and should play,” added Salman Butt.

The former Pakistan opener signed off by saying that Wriddhiman Saha’s statement is a positive sign for Indian cricket as it reflects the fact that players are focused on the betterment of the team and not on their individual performances.

“I see this as a very very positive sign for Indian cricket. This means whatever systems and policies they have, they have been successful to a large extent that their players don’t feel insecure,” said Salman Butt.

Wriddhiman Saha was dropped from the Test team following Team India’s shambolic defeat at the Adelaide Oval.

Rishabh Pant was integrated into the team for the second Test and during the course of the next 7 Tests against Australia and England, the 23-year-old proceeded to put consistent match-winning performances to nail down a permanent spot in the team.

Pant smashed as many as three half-centuries and a hundred across seven Tests which includes an unbeaten 89* against Australia at the Gabba to help India win a historic series Down Under.
