Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has reckoned that his country needs to score a lot of runs at first and then have a go at the New Zealand batting again for winning the trophy which seems bleak. Mohammed Shami had an excellent day at the office with the ball as he continuously kept asking questions with the ball and reaped the rewards for it.
He finished with a well-deserved four-wicket haul in the innings to restrict New Zealand to 249 in their first innings. India in their second innings has lost two wickets so far for 64 with the skipper Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara sitting at the crease. Still, 98 overs are to be bowled on the final and reserve day at Southampton.
Mohammed Shami Reveals The Focus Will Be On Scoring Runs
Mohammed Shami mentioned that India at present is playing the situation to score as many runs as possible and stated the focus is going to on scoring runs at first. He noted how the rain having taken away all the time in the match and added it is down to scoring as much as possible to be able to put New Zealand bat again in their second innings.
“We haven’t discussed anything as of now. We have started our second innings now and we have to make a lot of runs. Our focus now should be scoring runs.
“We have lost a lot of time due to rain, so we can’t think too much apart from scoring as many runs as possible. With the time we have, we need to score runs and then look at making New Zealand bat again with sufficient time in hand,” Mohammed Shami said to the Press On Day five.
Mohammed Shami Not To Regret For Missing Five Wicket Haul
Mohammed Shami expressed his happiness for making a contribution to the country and felt very proud of it rather than regretting missing out five wickets. He explained the importance of not being tired in the field by working as a bowling unit in tandem and was very clear in not thinking about five wickets at any stage on the ground.
“Never, I never feel that way. When you play for the country every moment you are out in the field is a proud one.
“Sometimes you can get tired, when you work as a unit, you can bowl long spells but never does the thought of not being able to not being able to take 5 wickets crosses my mind. I don’t regret it,” Shami added.
