Kyle Jamieson took 5/31 as India were bowled out for 217 in their first innings in the WTC final in Southampton. India lost their last eight wickets for 71 runs as the lanky all-rounder ended his spell with his fifth fifer in just his eighth Test match for New Zealand. India started their second innings on 146/3 on Day 3 and scored a handful of runs before being bowled out in their first innings in the big final.

Meanwhile, talking to ESPN Cricinfo, veteran pacer Dale Steyn said that Jamieson’s IPL stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore helped him perform well against India. Jamieson was roped in by the franchise for 15 crores ahead of IPL 2021. He picked up nine wickets from seven games for the side in the first half of IPL 2021. He played alongside the likes of Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and AB De Villiers in the side. Kohli was one of Jamieson’s five wickets in the first innings as well.

When asked about How he felt about Jamieson’s performance, Dale Steyn said  “Yes, I am very impressed. I think a little IPL stint does you wonders in the confidence. You know, you are rubbing shoulders with a lot of guys, you be in the dressing room with the likes of Maxwell, de Villiers, Virat himself. I think he literally played every game for RCB when he played in the IPL.”

He further said that an IPL stint would have boosted Kyle Jamieson’s confidence which resulted in him delivering a good performance against India.

“You kind of come into the series with a lot of confidence, feeling like you have got the backing of the best players in the world – Kane Williamson, all the guys in the New Zealand side obviously, as well as IPL team. He did well in the IPL. So, stepping into this Test match, I am sure he’s a man who has got a lot of confidence right now. I tell you the best time to bowl is when you’ve got the confidence.”

Meanwhile, the Kiwi openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway have given their team a strong start in their first innings in reply to India’s 217. The Indian pacers and spinners have tried their best but have not been able to produce a wicket so far.
