Yash Thakur makes India debut against Zimbabwe
Yash Thakur was handed the debut cap by the former Indian spinner and well-known broadcaster Murali Kartik on Saturday as the Vidarbha fast bowler made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in Harare. The 26-year-old pacer replaced Ashok Sharma in the playing XI for the second T20I.
India made the change after winning the first T20I by seven wickets. With India leading 1-0, the touring side will aim to win the second T20I to seal the series after disappointing tours of Ireland and England under the new captain Shreyas Iyer.

Strong domestic performance earns Yash Thakur an India call-up and debut
Yash Thakur was handed the maiden India call-up because of his impressive domestic T20 record. He has taken 110 wickets in 74 T20 matches at an economy rate of 8.17. He has also picked up five four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls in the shorter format of the game.
Vidarbha has also been impressive in List A and First-Class cricket. Yash has taken 93 first-class wickets at an average of 27.66 in 32 matches, while he has taken 90 wickets at an average of 27.01 in 57 List A games.
Speaking about IPL, Thakur has played 22 IPL matches and taken 27 wickets overall. However, the young bowler had a tough time with the Punjab Kings. Across just three appearances in the 2025 and 2026 IPL seasons, he managed only three wickets and conceded runs at an economy rate of 12.76. Yash Thakur reveals his biggest goal for India, wants to master death bowling
Meanwhile, Yash said that death bowling has always been his main focus. The Vidarbha bowler always wanted to improve his bowling in the death overs because he feels those overs can decide a match. He has followed the same approach in domestic cricket, India A, the IPL, and now the senior side.
Yash Thakur was quoted as saying by JioStar: “Ever since I started playing senior white-ball cricket for Vidarbha, I set one clear goal for myself: to become a specialist at death bowling. Matches are won and lost in the final overs, and that's where I wanted to make a difference for my team.”
He added, “I have carried that mindset with me throughout my career. Whether I am playing for Vidarbha, India A, or in the IPL, I see death bowling as the toughest challenge in cricket, and I want to master it. If I can perform in high-pressure situations, that is when I can truly make an impact.”
