Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle praised Yashasvi Jaiswal for his sharp fielding despite the India opener criticizing him on social media ahead of Day 2 (Monday, August 24) of the second Test. Bhogle stated that Yashasvi Jaiswal pulled off a stunning catch to dismiss Sri Lanka opener Lahiru Udara during the final session.

Team India declared their first innings at 503/9 after 138 overs at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Sri Lanka then struggled against India’s bowlers and finished the day at 8/2 after three overs. The hosts trailed India by 495 runs after losing two early wickets in the evening session of the match in Colombo.

Harsha Bhogle Praises Yashasvi Jaiswal for Stunning Catch

Harsha Bhogle praised Yashasvi Jaiswal for his brilliant fielding during the final session of Day 2 in Colombo. Jaiswal, who has often faced criticism for his fielding, produced an excellent catch at third slip to dismiss Lahiru Udara for just one run.

The dismissal came on the second ball of Prasidh Krishna’s second over. The pacer bowled a back-of-a-length delivery around off stump that straightened after pitching. Udara played a tentative shot away from his body and edged the ball towards third slip.

Yashasvi Jaiswal reacted quickly and dived full length to his right to complete the low catch. The dismissal left Sri Lanka at 1/1 after 1.2 overs and gave India an early breakthrough after they had declared their first innings at 503/9.

“Extremely challenging time to bat and a brilliant catch by Jaiswal makes it worse for Sri Lanka,” Harsha Bhogle wrote on X.

Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed Bhogle on social media regarding a heated exchange with Asitha Fernando. Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 45 off 53 balls with nine boundaries. He added 37 runs with KL Rahul for the opening wicket but has not scored a fifty in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka.

Harsha Bhogle Defends Umpires After Sri Lanka's Late Wickets

Harsha Bhogle also commented on Sri Lanka’s difficult end to Day 2 after the hosts lost two wickets in the final three overs. The commentator acknowledged the frustration of the Sri Lankan batters but backed the experienced international umpires to make the correct decisions.

“Can understand the frustration of the Sri Lankan batters but these are two high quality international panel umpires and we have to go with their judgement. I suspect there might be a few objects flying around in that dressing room this evening,” Bhogle wrote on X.

Manav Suthar struck in the third over. The left-arm spinner dismissed nightwatchman Prabath Jayasuriya to leave the hosts at 8/2 at stumps. Sri Lanka are styrggig in the match, with India holding a 495-run lead. The hosts will need a strong batting effort to stay in the contest and avoid following on.

Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel Lead India to 503/9

India built a huge first-innings total of 503/9 declared after 138 overs. Devdutt Padikkal continued his excellent form by scoring 117 off 193 balls, including 12 boundaries. It was his second consecutive Test century.

Dhruv Jurel also produced a superb innings, remaining unbeaten on 115 off 177 balls with nine fours and two sixes. The wicketkeeper-batter shared a 112-run partnership with Rishabh Pant.

Pant scored 63 off 89 balls after returning to the crease following his wrist injury, while captain Shubman Gill made 50 off 108 deliveries. Ravindra Jadeja also contributed 43 off 83 balls.

For Sri Lanka, Asitha Fernando was the most successful bowler. The right-arm pacer finished with 4/106 from 29 overs as India eventually declared with a commanding total.
