Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarafaz Khan missed representing Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy final that started against Vidarbha on Sunday, March 10 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Vidarbha defeated Madhya Pradesh in the first semi-final while Mumbai toppled Tamil Nadu to set up the final date. Vidarbha won the toss and opted to field first.
Umesh Yadav and Karun Nair are the two players from the Vidarbha team who have represented India at the national level. Several players in the Mumbaiplaying XI have represented India at the national level. Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, and Prithvi Shaw are examples to name a few.
Meanwhile, as per reports from a local newspaper in Mumbai, MCA Secretary Ajinkya Naik said that Yashasvi Jaiswal and Saarfaraz Khan who were part of the Indian Test team against England expressed their keenness to play in the Ranji Trophy final. However, they could not as there was no connecting flight from Dharamsala to Mumbai to help them with the travel.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Scores 712 Runs In Test Series Against England, Sarfaraz Khan, 200 in 3 Matches
Both Jaiswal and Sarfaraz made significant contributions to India’s Test series win against Egland. The southpaw emerged as the leading run-scorer in the series with 712 from five matches at an average of 89. Sarfaraz Khan in his debut Test series for India scored 200 runs in three Test matches with three fifty-plus scores in five innings. Ravichandran Ashwin ended the series with 26 wickets, courtesy of his nine-wicket haul in the final Test match.
Meanwhile, Musheer Khan, the younger brother of Sarfaraz has been named in the XI. The Ranji Trophy final is key for the likes of Rahane, Iyer, and Shaw. Performances especially for Iyer and Shaw can bring them back to contention for national return.
While Shaw has been out of the Indian team for more than 3 years now, Iyer was recently snubbed from BCCI’s latest list of centrally contracted players over his unwillingness to play domestic cricket. Ajinkya Rahane was not considered by the selectors as they thought he is well past his prime.
Speaking about Yashasvi Jaiswal, he ended the series with 712 runs. He is the second batter after Sunil Gavaskar to score more than 700 runs in a Test series. Jaiswal went past Virat Kohli’s tally of 655 runs against England that he scored in the 2016 Test series at home. For his batting exploits, Jaiswal was chosen as the Player of the Series.
India won the final Test by an innings and 64 runs. England scored 218 in their first innings. India in response scored a mammoth 477 with contributions from Jaiswal (57), Rohit Sharma (13), Shubman Gill (110), Devdutt Padikkal (65), and Sarfaraz Khan (56).
Cameos from Kuldeep Yadav (30) and Jasprit Bumrah (20) also helped India get to the huge first-innings total. Kuldeep for his contribution with the bat and his seven wickets in the match was named the Man of the Match. The Test series win now takes India to the top of the WTC points table with a PCT of 68.51.
