Yashasvi Jaiswal starts working with a different team amid Rajasthan Royals turmoil

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have been making headlines since their underwhelming IPL 2025 season. There have been considerable speculations over the future of Rajasthan Royals’ key players, including Sanju Samson and even Yashasvi Jaiswal, ahead of the IPL 2026 auction.

It is almost confirmed that Sanju Samson is leaving the franchise, and even Yashasvi Jaiswal reportedly considered the move, but captaincy assurance changed his mind. There were also reports that Dhurv Jurel was contemplating leaving the Royals, but those rumors died down.

Actually, the Indian opener’s social media post had sparked speculation among fans about leaving the RR. Just after the end of the 2025 IPL season, Jaiswal shared an Instagram post thanking Rajasthan Royals and mentioning his excitement for “the next challenge.”

The post immediately sparked rumors that he might be planning to leave the franchise. However, a few hours later, Jaiswal edited the caption, adding the Indian flag emoji and changing the text to make it clear that he was referring to his upcoming national duties.

Amidst the uncertainty that continues to surround the Rajasthan Royals camp, Yashasvi Jaiswal has started training with the Mumbai cricket team. The young opener was recently seen joining Mumbai’s practice sessions as he begins preparing for the upcoming domestic season.

Presently, Jaiswal, who was one of the highest-paid players retained by the Royals for a massive ₹18 crore by Rajasthan Royals, is gearing up for Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy 2025-26 match against Rajasthan, beginning November 1 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Earlier, in April 2025, the left-handed batter had requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to switch to Goa for the ongoing domestic season, only to reverse his decision. Yashasvi has assured that he would always be available for Mumbai whenever he gets time from his national duty.

Jaiswal was quoted as saying by the Times of India, “It is a matter of pride to play for Mumbai. So, whenever the schedule allows, I try to make sure I’m there to contribute.”

Additionally, the Indian opener stressed that playing in the Ranji Trophy is his personal choice, not a compulsion. He believes that domestic cricket is very important for a player’s growth.

Shubman Gill vs Yashasvi Jaiswal

Recently, Jaiswal lost his place to Shubman Gill in India’s T20I squad. Gill was elevated as India’s vice-captain in the format, and with Abhishek Sharma becoming a regular opener and Sanju Samson doing wicketkeeping duties, the Mumbaikar had to make way for Gill in the format.

They are both openers, but their batting styles make them very different players. Gill has played 29 matches and scored 742 runs from 519 balls, with a highest score of 126*. He averages 29.68 and strikes at 142.96, with one century, three fifties, 81 fours, and 25 sixes.

On the other hand, Jaiswal has played 23 T20I matches for India so far, scoring 723 runs off just 440 balls. He averages 36.15 with a blistering strike rate of 164.31. He also has one century and five fifties, along with 82 fours and 38 sixes.
