The fifth day of the Melbourne Test between Australia and India was affected by a huge controversy later in the day when the opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was controversially given out despite the Snicko not showing anything on it.

Yashasvi Jaiswal even argued with the on-field umpire after he was given out but had to eventually walk back. Former India wicketkeeper Surinder Khanna has slammed the Indian team for questioning the umpire's decisions and trying to inflict controversy.

Khanna claimed that Jaiswal was clearly out since the pace of the ball decreased before being taken by Alex Carey behind the stumps.

'Juthe log hai yeh" - Surinder Khanna on Yashasvi Jaiswal's controversy

While speaking to the news agency IANS, Surinder Khanna lashed out at the Indian team for trying to create controversy. He claimed that there was enough evidence to rule Yashasvi Jaiswal out through different camera angles.

"There is no point in making controversy. They've shown it from four angles that the ball hit the gloves, and its pace also decreased before Alex Carey caught it behind the stumps. Akash Deep also complained of a similar thing when he was caught out," Khanna explained.

Khanna even went to the extent of calling Rohit Sharma and his team "liars". He called the team to play fairly and then think about winning about winning the game.

"'Juthe log hai yeh (they are liars)', you have to play fair cricket first, then only you'll start winning. When the bat is in your hand, how can you not know about edging the ball?" he noted.

What was the controversy?

During the 71st over of India's second innings on Day 5, Pat Cummins bowled a short ball on the leg side which Yashasvi Jaiswal tried to pull down the leg side. Wicketkeeper Alex Carey caught the ball and the Australian team went up in appeal.

The on-field umpire gave it not out and Pat Cummins asked for a review. There was a clear deflection of path when the ball passed the bat but the Snicko didn't show any disturbance on it which created all the confusion.

After several replays, the umpire ruled Jaiswal out resulting in the dismay of the opening batter. Yashasvi Jaiswal was India's last hope of securing a draw as he top-scored for India with a fine 84 off 208 balls.

"Come the IPL..." - Surinder Khanna slams Team India

Further elaborating on India's performance in Melbourne, Surinder Khanna lashed out at Team India for playing over-aggressive cricket in Test cricket like the IPL and hopes for a change in the New Year.

"We have played bad and we have lost. What kind of batting they're doing? Come the IPL, these players will hit runs. Don't play over-aggressive T20 cricket and play positively. Let's hope that the luck changes in the New Year (for the Indian team)," Khanna added.

Team India have been severely criticized for its attacking style of cricket which has cost them some games as well. The batters have been looking to play with aggressive intent which has led to the fall of their wickets at crucial times
