The excitement around a selection day, especially for major competitions such as the Asia Cup, may be palpable. Even more so than the scintillating T20I matches between India and England and the West Indies over the last two months.

The roster for the forthcoming Asia Cup will be released in a few hours, and one name will undoubtedly command all attention: Virat Kohli.

Statistically, the last twelve months have been one of the most difficult for him, as he has failed to score more than 150 runs in nine matches in this format. His average (24.83) pales in comparison to his career average (50.12). Not only is Kohli average, but his strike rate (113.74) is also below his career strike rate.

Virat Kohli Is Going To Come Out As A Much Better Player: Brian Lara

“I respect Virat Kohli as a player, and he is going to come out of it as a much better player,” West Indies legend Brian Lara told News 18.

“He will be learning a lot of things at this point in time. You cannot write him off,” added the former West Indies captain.

Kohli has been rested for four series since the last T20 World Cup: New Zealand, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and the current Caribbean trip. Furthermore, he has been rested for the three-match One-Day International series in Zimbabwe, which begins on August 18. Because there has always been some type of mystery around the word rest,’ because there is no clarity if selectors provided it to the player or the player asked for it, the Asia Cup selection is going to be a hot topic!
