Prithvi Shaw, who had endured a tough outing last year both for Delhi Capitals and for India, set the tone for the win as he smashed a whirlwind 38-ball 72 which included nine fours and three massive sixes.
Ponting, during his address to the entire team, post their seven-wicket win, lauded Shaw for his efforts. The multiple World Cup-winner reckoned that Prithvi will learn a lot from his knock as he backed him to emulate his performances in the upcoming matches.
“Prithvi, it was awesome and you have got so much to learn from that one innings. You can go into the next game thinking about nothing, you will get runs again. So, you got plenty to learn from that innings, it was awesome,” said Ricky Ponting in his first dressing “room speech.
Ponting also lauded Rishabh Pant for his captaincy and the fast bowling duo of Avesh Khan and Chris Woakes, who were absolutely brilliant against CSK.
“Outstanding performance, brilliant team effort. Rishabh’s first game as captain, he did a fantastic job mate, congratulation. Bowlers upfront, Woakes he set the tone early on,” said Ponting.
“Wicket in the second over of the innings. Followed up by Avesh, who ended up knocking over two international captains, mate awesome job, well done,” he added.
While Shikhar Dhawan won the ‘Player of the Match’ for his whirlwind 85, Ricky Ponting chose Avesh Khan, Chris Woakes and Prithvi Shaw as the dressing room’s ‘Player of the Match’.
