Former India all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh opines that playing in the Indian Premier League, especially at a young age, is helpful for players when they make their national team debut. Yuvraj’s comments come in view of Ishan Kishan’s sublime T20I debut, on Sunday, against England in Ahmedabad.

The 22-year-old, replacing veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan, roared on the international arena with a 56-run match-winning knock from 32 balls against the likes of Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, and Chris Jordan – bowlers who largely troubled the Indian batsmen in the first T20I. Kishan harrumphed 5 fours and 4 sixes to build a platform for India’s successful chase of the 165-run target to level the series.

That’s the beauty of playing IPL at a young age: Yuvraj Singh

While lauding the youngster for his ‘dream debut’ Yuvraj Singh said that Ishan Kishan has benefitted from the time he has spent with the now-defunct Gujarat Lions, and the Mumbai Indians in the last 5 IPL seasons. Yuvraj also shared the dressing room with the Jharkhand batsman in the 2019 IPL during his time with the Rohit Sharma-led franchise.

The 2011 World Cup-winning all-rounder reckons the IPL exposes the youngsters to high-pressure situations, and therefore the players look at home when they make their international debuts – as Kishan seemed with his fearless approach on Sunday. The youngster had a tremendous IPL 2021 – 516 at an average of 57.33 with a strike rate of 145.76 helping MI clinch their fifth title.

The 39-year-old also expressed his delight at Virat Kohli returning back to form with an unbeaten half-century; Kohli took the backseat when Kishan and then Rishabh Pant were firing all cylinders. After the dismissals of both left-handers, the skipper, who was coming off consecutive ducks, finished the game with alacrity to announce his return to form as well.

“What a dream debut for  @ishankishan51 absolutely fearless about his game ! That’s the beauty of playing ipl at a young age you just used to the atmosphere and you go and express your self ! !! And skipper is back with some class of his own !!@imVkohli #ENGvIND t20,” tweeted Yuvraj Singh.

The series stands level after the first couple of encounters, with the third scheduled on Tuesday, at the same venue.
