Young Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma has yet again showered rich praise on Yuvraj Singh for his impact on his career, as he recalled a memorable moment when the legendary all-rounder came to his rescue from a sledging by an opponent during a Ranji Trophy match for Punjab.

The incident took place during a Ranji Trophy match, where the former World Cup winner came to rescue the young batter. During the match, Punjab had planned a strategy to unsettle a key opponent by targeting him with verbal exchanges.

When Yuvraj Singh saved Abhishek Sharma from sledging in a Ranji Trophy match

Abhishek, who was involved in executing this plan while bowling, found himself in the midst of a heated exchange. After the plan was set in motion, the young all-rounder had to face revenge from the opposition when he went out to bat in the match. The opposing player began sledging and hurling abuse at him, creating a stressful environment.

Yuvraj, who was present at the other end of the pitch, quickly noticed that Abhishek was experiencing discomfort. In a recent interview on the YouTube channel Second Innings with Manjot Kalra, Abhishek revealed that he told the former Indian all-rounder about the same. In the next moment, Yuvraj gave a stern look to the player, and he instantly apologized.

Abhishek Sharma told Manjot Kalra: “I don't remember the name, but there was a player who had scored a hundred against us in that match. We had planned to sledge him a little. You are bound to get angry if a youngster does that to you. When I went to bat, he was standing at short leg and started targeting me.

Yuvi paaji was at the other end, he saw that something was bothering me. He asked me about it, and I told him that this guy was abusing me. Yuvi paaji just gave him a look and the player instantly apologized.”

He has always been my idol: Abhishek Sharma on Yuvraj Singh

Notably, Abhishek had the chance to meet Yuvraj for the first time when he made his Ranji Trophy debut at the age of 16. At that time, Yuvraj was making a remarkable comeback, having an exceptional season with nearly 800-900 runs.

The left-handed batter was starstruck by the presence of his idol on the field. Motivated by Yuvraj's performance in the 2007 T20 World Cup, Abhishek aspired to emulate his idol’s all-round abilities in batting, bowling, and fielding. He added, “He has had a lot of influence on me. I just kept looking at him in the dressing room.”

Abhishek revealed that he always turns to Yuvraj whenever there is some confusion or doubt in his mind. He has the assurance to get the answers from the legendary all-rounder.

The Indian batter said that he is also in touch with Yuvraj’s father, Yograj Singh, and even practiced with him, who keeps all the updates. Abhishek said that he really enjoyed practicing with Yograj.
