In a recent development, 2 former Indian cricketers and Cricket World Cup winners – Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra were involved in an awkward situation when the former asked the latter to allow him to take up the job of mentorship for 1-time IPL winners Gujarat Titans ahead of the latest edition, which is slated to start from March.

Yuvraj Singh has made very few appearances in cricket matches as a coach or commentator since his retirement back in June 2019, exactly a day after the Indian team defeated the 2015 CWC winners by 36 runs at the Oval. His last appearance in India colors had come in an ODI match against the West Indies back in 2017, 2 years before he announced retirement.

It would be fair to say that he was a player who brought on a change in Indian cricket. His style, enigma, attitude, and confidence coupled with a brilliant cricketing brain made him the Yuvraj Singh we know of. He has vice-captained India towards 2 major ICC titles – the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and the 2011 CWC at home.

His contribution was as important as any other player in the team and the man of the tournament award in the 2011 WC is a proper justification for it. But since coming back from cancer, Yuvraj was not the same as before but given the amount of success he helped the Indian team achieve, everyone will love to forget about his inefficiency after he won the battle against cancer.

When it comes to the IPL, he has been a part of 2 different winning sides – the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 and Mumbai Indians in 2019 which also ended up becoming his final season in the world’s richest cricket league. Unlike other former cricketers who have indulged in commentary or coaching, Yuvraj has yet to take up a role of that sort.

“My Priority Is My Kids Right Now”, Says Yuvraj Singh

In a recent interview with PTI, Yuvraj Singh claimed that his main focus at the moment is his kids and their development. Yuvi is a father of a son and a daughter and he is waiting till the time they start going to school to even think about coaching. However, even if he does, his main priority will be to help upcoming players from Punjab, his birth state, and mentor an IPL team.

“Let’s see what opportunities I get, but my priority is my kids right now. Once they start school, I will have more time. So I can start coaching. I love working with the young guys, especially my state boys, and I feel that mentoring is something that I would love to do and definitely, to be part of one of the IPL teams, I’m definitely looking at it.” – Yuvraj said.

“I Asked Mr. Ashish Nehra But He Declined”, Yuvraj Singh Opens Up On GT Mentorship Rejection

Yuvraj Singh’s teammate from the 2011 CWC triumph Ashish Nehra who is currently the head coach of Gujarat Titans, apparently denied the former big hitter from taking up the role of mentor of the 2022 winners. Nehra did not give any specific reason but he is still willing to give back to the game.

“I asked Mr. Ashish Nehra for a job but he declined it. So, let’s see where else I can get a position, but at the moment, I have to balance. So, definitely, in the coming years, I want to give back to cricket and help the young guys get better. I can contribute a lot.” – Yuvraj Singh concluded.
