10 Cricketers Who Were Involved In Sex Scandals

Cricket has been a household affair across the globe as the cricketers are almost worshipped with cricket seen as a religion. On a time where every action of the cricketers are minutely noticed, it is hard to get away with doing nasty kinds of stuff. It becomes more embarrassing when they get caught red-handed in front of the public.

Time and again, we have seen cricketers have found themselves in the middle of these controversies, the latest being the Pakistan cricketer Imam-ul-Haq. A series of chats were put on social media accusing the cricketers of multiple affairs with women and harassing them. However, it is something not new with the cricketers, and there have been such instances since the start of cricket.

1. KEVIN PIETERSEN

The South African-born Kevin Pietersen was one of the most flamboyant cricketers to represent England team. While he had the abilities to impress with fluent cover drives and pull shot, Pietersen can easily drool women by his looks.

Before his marriage, Pietersen dated a playboy model and Bigboss contestant, Vanessa Nimmo. Their relationship didn’t work out for more than a month, and the star cricketer dumped Vanessa. Soon after that, the model decided to spoil the image of the cricketer coming out in the media and revealing how Pietersen used to pester her for having sex.

“Kevin was desperate for sex and kept pestering me all day. I certainly wasn’t hit for six by his performance,” the lady said after the break-up.

2. CHRIS GAYLE

Chris Gayle is one of the bad boys of cricket and probably he likes it that way. He had the charm to blow away girls easily just as he did with the bowlers inside the cricket field. He has time and found himself in the headlines for the wrong reasons.

The self-proclaimed Universe Boss was found socialising with three British women in his Sri Lankan hotel room during the ICC World T20 2012. A timely intervention by the West Indies team’s bodyguards, who called the police and handed over the women to them, saved the day for him. Gayle also asked for a TV presenter after one of the games in BBL in Australia.

3. IMAM-UL-HAQ

Pakistan cricketer Imam-ul-Haq has landed in deep controversy after a series of obscene chats were out on social media allegedly of him having multiple affairs and cheating on girls. WhatsApp chats were put out on Twitter to accuse Imam of exploiting women.

However, the Twitter handle from which has posts came soon deleted his account but the screenshots spread like wildfire which created a social media stir. The posts also divided Twitter users into two halves with one criticising Imam while others took on the girls saying that they were doing it just to spoil the image of the cricketers as Imam has not harassed any women evident from the messages.

4. MIKE GATTING

The greatest England skipper Mike Gatting is well-known as the recipient of Shane Warne’s ball of the century. However, he garnered more attention when he was accused of his illicit involvement with a barmaid, Louise Shipman, in his hotel room during the first Test against West Indies at Trent Bridge.

Although Gatting maintained his innocence, England and Wales Cricket Board didn’t buy his version of the truth.

5. SHANE WARNE

Shane Warne has been the king both on and off the cricket ground. From weaving his magic on the 22-yards to continuing it off the field, Warne went on to become a cult figure. He has found himself in the middle of various scandals involving women throughout his life.

From harassing British nurse Donna Wright, to getting naughty with 25-year old models, to having fun with a Melbourne stripper, to having extra-marital affairs, to kissing his girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley openly in the stadium during Indian Premier League in 2011, Warne has been in the newspaper from wrong reasons many times.

6. HERSCHELLE GIBBS

Herschelle Gibbs was one of the most charming cricketers during his time. Gibbs himself has opened about his numerous accounts of sex life throughout his cricketing career in his autobiography ‘To The Point.’

Describing one incident ahead of 1999 World Cup game against Australia, the former Proteas cricketer said that he knew that he will score a century on that game as the girl had inspired him so much.

 “I just knew I was going to get a century. Perhaps the girl lying in bed beside me had inspired me. She worked at the hotel, where I had befriended her. I guess she was my lucky charm — she certainly was when it came to my batting. I just wish her powers had extended to my fielding and the bladdy dropped catch,” Gibbs wrote.

He also has described various more instances of him involved with women during various tours of his career.

7. MOHAMMED SHAMI

Team India cricketer Mohammed Shami’s life has been turned upside down last year when his wife Hasin Jahan levelled allegations of extra-marital affairs against him. She also released what she claimed were photos of the player with other women. She also accused Shami of fixing India’s matches.

However, the player had denied all the charges against him and had said that he is ready to fight the case in the court. The Kolkata Police has also booked the cricketer under various sections which are still running. But Shami has resumed playing and has been in significant form in recent times across the formats.

8. SHAHID AFRIDI

Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi has enjoyed a good fan base mostly women due to his good looks all across the globe. He has time and against found himself in the middle of controversies throughout his cricketing career.

Shahid Afridi along with his teammates Atiq uz-Zaman and Hasan Raza were found with a group of girls in a hotel of Karachi before heading for a tournament in Singapore. Pakistan Cricket Board took strong action against the players and dropped Afridi from the Champions Trophy squad in 2000.

9. DARYL TUFFEY

One of New Zealand’s finest fast bowlers Daryl Tuffey bumped into a cellular shop in March 2005 where two English tourists used their mobile to allegedly film Tuffey having sex with a 23-year-old Christchurch sales representative.

Meanwhile, the English tourists were found nowhere after the whole story broke. However, the woman who involved in the story said that she has never met Tuffey, and there was no source of any video clippings to come into judgement.

10. IAN BOTHAM

One of the greatest all-rounders to have played cricket, Sir Ian Botham took the game to a whole new level. While he was more than perfect on the cricket field, Botham had a scandalous life off the cricket field.

He cheated on his wife, who had full trust in him. Botham also had an affair with an Australian waitress. However, it was his relationship with former Miss Barbados Lindy Field in the 1980s that took the cricketing world by storm.
