The auction for the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) will take place on December 19 in Kolkata. All the teams would have done their homework regarding which players they want to retain, release and buy at the auction.
Apart from that, the coaches would have also started to look at the likely combinations for the season. Most IPL teams have made changes to their backroom staff and there can also be a case that the new coaches might also want a new leader at the helm.
Today, we have a look at three franchises who might ring changes and replace their captain –
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) –

For seven seasons now, RCB have had only one man at the helm – Virat Kohli. The RCB skipper hasn’t been able to lead the team to a title victory. The last time this team close to a title triumph was in 2016, where Kohli alone carried the team into the final with 973 runs at an average of 81.08.

This year in IPL, RCB finished the eighth spot in the points table and failed to qualify. They lost their first six games on the trot and were never in contention once they lost the track earlier in the competition.
Though it’s a tough task, but RCB’s new team management, for once, might think to drop Kohli as captain.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) –

Dinesh Karthik was a surprise pick for the captaincy post when the franchise named his as the leader for IPL 2018. The team did qualify for the second round last year but in IPL 2019, KKR finished at the spot fifth spot and failed to qualify on NRR. During the tournament, the dressing room talks came out and Andre Russell also questioned his batting position.

There were also talks about Shubman Gill’s batting position as he mostly played in the middle-order. Keeping the team’s talks within the dressing room is one of the key features to success in a tournament like IPL and certainly, the captain and the team management could not do it. Karthk is likely to be retained by KKR but the new team management headed by Brendon McCullum might just want a new captain.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) –

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s name on the list will surprise many but it’s a fact that team unperformed in the last season. They barely managed to qualify for the playoffs – SRH, KKR and KXIP had same points and SRS qualified on NRR – and lost to Delhi Capitals in the Eliminator.
They have already roped in Trevor Bayliss as new head coach and a comeback for David Warner as captain is also on the cards. His absence from IPL 2018 saw Kane Williamson taking over, which surprised many. SRH made it to the final of IPL 2018.
Warner, who led the team to title triumph in 2016, might just be back as team’s captain under the new coach.
