The IPL auction for the forthcoming season of the T20 extravaganza will take place on the 19th of December in Kolkata. With the release and retention lists being announced a few days ago, the franchises have started planning to bridge the gaps in their teams. Few franchises have retained their core players, liberating only a few players. Whereas most teams have let go of several players, especially foreign recruits, who haven’t lived up to the hype.

The auction is less than a month away, and the buzz is around a few players. With several tournaments being played since the last season of the IPL, including CPL, T10 League, Mzansi Super League, Vitality Blast, few players have emerged who can trigger a bidding war among the franchises.

We at Cricket Addictor will take a look at five players between whom the franchises can engage in a bidding war in the IPL 2020 auctions:

Tom Banton

England’s Tom Banton shot into the limelight, having finished the second-highest run-scorer in T20 Vitality Blast. Since then, he has been in the radar of several franchises around the globe. Big Bash League’s Brisbane Heat secured his services last month. Most recently he featured in T10 league, playing for Qalandars.

The 21-year old amassed 162 runs in five games, striking at 200. Banton’s approach to the shortest format, mainly his expertise in playing the reverse sweeps and scoops makes him an exciting prospect. Having a player who can play a diverse range of shots indeed is a plus point for any franchise in the IPL.

While the Englishman expressed his desire to play for the Mumbai Indians, most franchises would be lining up to recruit him to team up with them.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Few would know the struggle Yashasvi Jaiswal endured to make it big in this level. The 17-year old earned a berth for the Mumbai domestic team on the back of an exquisite form while playing for junior clubs. From selling pani puris, he announced his arrival to the List A cricket by smashing a double ton for the side, taking no time in showcasing his potential.

The youngster played an integral role in helping India clinch their sixth U19 Aisa Cup title in 2018. For his scintillating show with the bat, scoring 318 runs, Yashasvi also bagged the player of the series award. With plenty of promise and the additional benefit of an Indian recruit, multiple teams would look to seal his deal.

Eoin Morgan

It is no surprise that Irishman Eoin Morgan would most likely go down as one of the most demanding players in the auction. Eoin Morgan has had an incredible time since he took over as the captain of the English limited-overs side. Since assuming the role of the leader, Morgan has transformed the landscape of the English white-ball set up.

While Morgan has been part of Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Banglore before, he hasn’t been able to nail his place in any of the sides. In 52 IPL games, the southpaw has managed only 854 runs. His most productive year was 2013 in which he scored 307 runs in 14 games at an average of nearly 28, playing for Kolkata Knight Riders.

The 33-year old, along with his calm presence on the field, is also capable of performing the task of power-hitting in the middle-order when required. Teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, and Kings XI Punjab would take note of Morgan, given the absence of a strong captain over the years has deprived them of a title. The English limited-overs captain could play a significant role in turning around the fortunes of these franchises.

The left-handed batsman from South Africa faced the axe from Kings XI Punjab after featuring for them since the start. David Miller suffered a woeful run since the last few seasons, and hence the franchise decided to part ways with him.

While the southpaw hasn’t been at his best lately, his experience in the format is hard to ignore. In eight seasons with the Punjab-based franchise, Miller has accumulated 1850 runs at an average of 33.64. His strike rate of 138.78 suggests that he can still be one of the hottest picks to go after.

Chris Lynn

One of the most shocking releases that ended up taking place was that of Chris Lynn’s from Kolkata Knight Riders. The right-handed batsman from Queensland formed one of the dynamic opening partnerships along with Sunil Narine. While Lynn’s outing in the past season wasn’t anywhere close to awful, the KKR think-tank might regret letting go of him after his performances in the T10 League.

Playing for Maratha Arabians, Lynn topped the run-scoring charts by amassing 371 runs at a mind-boggling strike rate of 236. For the 29-year old, it became an icing on the cake with Maratha Arabians emerging as champions and Lynn earning the player of the tournament award. Based on his rampaging form in the T10 League, the Australian would surely be welcomed by several franchises.
