Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has stayed active amid no cricketing activities taking place. To begin with, Aakash named three Indian youngsters, who are knocking hard on the national selectors’ doors already and would be big-ticket players in the future. While Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill have already entered the international arena, Yashasvi Jaiswal may not be too far behind. Yashasvi Jaiswal played in the U-19 World Cup this year, in which he was the highest run-getter with 400 runs in six games.
The 42-year-old moved on to pick three Pakistan cricketers, two of which were bowlers. The bowlers who Aakash Chopra opted for were Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah. The duo has already impressed in their brief careers so far. He hailed Shaheen, saying that the left-arm pacer can use his height to good effect, generating excellent bounce to trouble the batsmen.
“The left-arm pacer is really fast. He made his debut in the Asia Cup and he keeps on growing in leaps and bounds. He has a great height and can bowl the bowl full while swinging it. His speed is great and someone who can bowl full is bound to pick up wickets. The way his career graph is progressing, it looks like the future is his. We will probably be hearing this name even more as we go along.”
He is getting a lot of praise from all quarters: Aakash Chopra on Haider Ali
Aakash backs prolific domestic batsman from Pakistan to shine after Pakistan’s limited-overs captain Babar Azam. Ali, who has been picked for the upcoming England tour, would look to translate his form in the Quaid-E-Azam trophy to the international level. Aakash Chopra expressed plenty of confidence in him and tipped him to be the next Babar Azam.
“Haider Ali is another player from Pakistan. He is a batsman of pedigree. He has already done well if you look at his trajectory. He made runs in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy which is their domestic tournament.
He is getting a lot of praise from all quarters. He is being compared to Babar Azam, even being called the next Babar Azam. We don’t know if he can become the next Babar Azam but if he becomes Haider Ali first it would be more than good enough,” Aakash Chopra said.
Other players who made it to the elite list were Australia’s Josh Phillipe, England’s Tom Banton, Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmed, and Proteas’ Gerald Coetzee.
Below is the list of players:
Shubman Gill (India), Shaheen Afridi (Pakistan), Tom Banton (England), Noor Ahmed (Afghanistan), Josh Philippe (Australia), Yashasvi Jaiswal (India), Gerald Coetzee (South Africa), Naseem Shah (Pakistan), Prithvi Shaw (India), Haider Ali (Pakistan)
