Former Indian opening batsman Aakash Chopra has named five youngsters to watch out for in the 13th edition of IPL. The IPL has always been a grooming platform for young cricketers as several of them have earned international caps and gone to make it big. Aakash Chopra has come up with several predictions ahead of this year’s cash-rich season.

Aakash Chopra began with Kolkata Knight Riders’ Shubman Gill, who he expects to have a special outing and to get plenty of opportunities. Shubman Gill opened the innings midway through the previous season and produced some outstanding scores off his bat. He might likely open the innings with Tom Banton.

Firstly I will pick Shubman Gill. He is the opener for KKR, this year I feel will be very special for him. One thing is he will get a lot of opportunities and he will make the best use of them,” Aakash told in his Youtube channel.

The 42-year old proceeded to name Yashasvi Jaiswal and wants him to open the batting for Rajasthan Royals. Aakash added that the 18-year old, who is the youngest List A double-centurion could blast any bowling attack and has an excellent temperament.

After him, I see Yashasvi Jaiswal. He is also a very good player. I expect this season will be good for him and hope that he will get the chance to open the batting for Rajasthan Royals. He is a swashbuckling left-hander and has a very good temperament,” he claimed.

Kings XI Punjab leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi was the third in the list and has Anil Kumble as a coach. The cricketer-turned-commentator lauds his googly delivery but reckons that Ravi needs to work on his leg-spin.

My third pick will be Ravi Bishnoi, who plays for Kings XI Punjab. There we will have Anil Kumble as well. He bowls leg-spin with a flatter trajectory and has a very good googly. He has to work a little on his leg spin but I feel Anil Kumble might have already done that with him,” Chopra reckoned.

Aakash Chopra’s final two picks for the 13th edition of IPL:

The former Indian cricketer proceeded to name another leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, who belongs to Mumbai Indians. Aakash understands that Mumbai does not have too many experienced spinners; hence, Chahar’s role would be crucial and hopes he get ample opportunities, in which he excels.

Rahul Chahar, that’s another leg-spinner. Mumbai Indians do not have too much spin-bowling depth. Because of that you want Rahul Chahar to actually come to the fore. The matches will be played on huge grounds, so the hope is that he will get chances and he will also do well,” the 42-year old conceded.

Lastly, Devdutt Padikkal from Royal Challengers Bangalore earned praises from the 42-year old. He remains unclear whether RCB will play him; however, Aakash Chopra labelled Padikkal as the one, who plays the big shots and enjoyed a fruitful domestic season.

Last but not the least, although there are many others like Nagarkoti, Mavi and Sarfaraz, I am going for Devdutt Padikkal. I want to see him, I don’t know if RCB will play him or not but if they play him, he is a tall left-handed batsman and plays the big shots and his domestic season was very good,” he added further.
