Aakash Chopra, former Indian opener-turned commentator, has hailed Mohammad Nabi for his all-round display in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League.
The Afghan off-spinning all-rounder has been absolutely sensational in the CPL thus far. Besides claiming 10 wickets in seven games, Nabi has been leading the St Lucia Zouks batting-unit as well, having already racked up 112 runs.
“Mohammad Nabi has owned the CPL till now. It has been his CPL with both bat and ball. I think he has punched above his weight if you talk only about his batting. And in bowling if you are giving only 4.5 to 4.75 runs per over, it is almost like Test match bowling,” Aakash Chopra said on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’.
Mohammad Nabi’s batting is a little underrated- Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra heaped high praise on Mohammad Nabi’s batting, adding that it is an underrated aspect of his game.
With lower-order batting being SRH’s perennial weakness, the franchisee will be delighted by Nabi’s batting form. He, however, reckoned that unlike SRH, former skipper Kane Williamson will be worried about Mohammad Nabi as he may have to make way for the Afghan all-rounder in the playing XI.
“Nabi’s batting is a little underrated, it is not talked much about. If you see from that angle, Sunrisers would be very happy because they have lower-order problems. And if Nabi is batting well, then I feel there is a question mark on Kane Williamson’s place. Kane Williamson will be a little worried but Sunrisers Hyderabad will be very happy,” Aakash Chopra added.
With skipper David Warner, his opening partner Jonny Bairstow and ace leg-spinner Rashid Khan as certain starters, the likes of Williamson, Nabi, Fabian Allen, and Mitch Marsh will have to fight for the 4th overseas spot.
