While the Coronavirus Pandemic has brought the whole world to a standstill, it has given cricketers of past and present an opportunity to delve in the past chapters of their lives and reminisce the erstwhile moments. Keeping that trend going, various players have taken to social media to post a lot of content in the past few days.

Similarly, Aakash Chopra, the former Indian opener-turned-commentator has been churning up some decent cricket content on his youtube channel. Earlier, he had already revealed his six top hitters in the world cricket, as well as top-six yorker specialists.

The 42-year-old, in the latest video of his series Super Over, named his top six Indian captains, on Wednesday.

Chopra placed former skipper Ajit Wadekar at number six, going on to add that under his leadership, India emerged as a powerhouse for the first time. Wadekar led India to Test series wins against mighty teams such as England and West Indies in 1971.

He said, “Under Ajit Wadekar, we won for the first time in West Indies and England- both in 1971. He may have captained in only 18 matches, in which we didn’t win a lot of Test matches, but then we are talking of the 1970s here. Under Wadekar, India started winning and the seeds of them becoming a superpower were laid under his leadership.”

At number five, the former Indian batsman placed Rahul Dravid, under whom, India won against the likes of West Indies [2006] and England [2007] for the first time after 35 and 21 years respectively. Chopra added that while Dravid didn’t lead India for too long, but he experienced a few highs and a few lows.

Under the player nicknamed ‘Mr Dependable’, India defeated England in their own den, however, they also suffered a big setback in the 2007 World Cup, stated Chopra.

He then put current Indian skipper Virat Kohli at fourth place. Hailing Kohli’s killer instinct, the Agra born cricketer highlighted how the Men in Blue have been at the top of ICC rankings for some time now.

“He [Kohli] has a good team, he is steadily becoming a better captain. He may not have won an ICC trophy but under his leadership, but from the past three years the team has been at the numero-uno spot in the Test rankings. He will also play the final of Test championship and may possibly also win it. As far as ICC events are concerned, the team has always made its way to the semis or even the finals,” said Chopra.

The third place on his list went to current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly who is widely heralded by many as the best skippers of all time.

Chopra praised Ganguly for helping in the development of stellar players such as Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh, who would go on to become pillars of the Indian team in the years to come.

Under ‘Dada’, India was able to break the jinx of suffering in overseas conditions, as he oversaw wins against England, Pakistan and Australia.

The commentator next included former Indian skipper Kapil Dev, under whom the Men in Blue won their first-ever World Cup in 1983. The Haryana Hurricane’s individual performances were the roadmap upon which India’s success was built back then, with his 175 run knock vs Zimbabwe going down in the folklore of cricketing history.

At number one, Chopra placed MS Dhoni, who led India to prestigious titles such as the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 World Cup, and the Champions trophy in 2013. Moreover, the 38-year-old also helped the Men in Blue top ICC Test rankings in 2009, thereby fully deserving a place at the top of the pile.
