Aakash Chopra, former Indian opener-turned commentator, feels that the Royal Challengers Bangalore [RCB] will be heartened with the fact that they scored in excess of 200 despite their skipper Virat Kohli not contributing much to the eventual total.

Virat Kohli endured yet another failure in the last game as he managed a painstaking 11-ball 3 before eventually getting dismissed by leg-spinner Rahul Chahar. However, the likes of Devdutt Padikkal, who scored a matured half-century, and whirlwind knocks by AB de Villiers and Shivam Dube ensured that RCB eventually posted 3-201 in 20 overs.

Chopra heaped high praise on rookie Devdutt Padikkal for his matured knock and the manner in which he accelerated after Virat’s dismissal, hailing him as India’s future.

“Starting with the RCB batting, Devdutt Padikkal is India’s future. He has been absolutely outstanding. He first played second fiddle to Aaron Finch and then when Virat Kohli came I felt that he should not throw away his wicket as Virat was not batting that fluently.” Aakash Chopra said on his official Youtube channel.

Aakash Chopra also talked about Virat Kohli’s batting form, adding that it is a slight concern for RCB but at the same time he reckoned that the team will take a lot of heart from the fact that they managed to score more than 200 runs before their captain’s significant contribution.

“That is a concern but it is a good news as well because if RCB could score more than 200 runs without Virat Kohli’s contribution, what will they do when he gets his form. I shudder to think what will happen, their batting will become terrific.”

AB de Villiers turned back the clock yesterday with his amazing takedown of Jasprit Bumrah as ‘Mr 360’ smashed the ace fast bowler for 28 runs in a mere 8 balls, and it was because of his exploits and Shivam Dube’s rapid cameo that paved way for RCB to reach beyond 200, reckoned Aakash Chopra.

“After that, AB de Villiers was amazing and Dube came and hit a lot. They reached beyond 200 and hit Bumrah a lot.” Aakash Chopra signed off.
