In-form Pakistani batsman Abid Ali, who grabbed headlines after scoring centuries at home against Sri Lanka has revealed that he used to watch videos of legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

Ali, 32, in a recent interaction with Pakistan media conceded that he looked up to the Indian legend for inspiration. He also admitted that Tendulkar’s batting style inspired him a lot.

The Pakistani batsman holds an amazing feat of scoring centuries on his Test and ODI debuts.

In his interview, Abid also highlighted that due to his short height he had to adapt his game in comparison to other batsmen. This, he said, is also something he learned from Tendulkar himself.

Ali was full of praises for Tendulkar in his interview and he conceded that he learned a lot from the record-breaking maestro from across the border.

“Obviously there are other great batsmen as well that I admire but I have tried to adapt my game to the way Tendulkar played,” said the Pakistani opener.

He further added, “From the start I have watched his videos and I watch him bat more because of his height as I am also of similar height. This has helped me pick up and adopt his batting strengths.”

Despite all this, Ali has said that he would not like to be called the ‘Pakistani Tendulkar’, which is obvious considering that he considers Tendulkar as his inspiration.

Another record that the 32-year-old would be eyeing is hitting three consecutive centuries in his first three Test matches. The last person to do so was former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin, who achieved that feat against England.

“When we play Bangladesh in the Test next month in Rawalpindi, I will have that in mind. But I can only try to give my best and play positively. Scoring a third century is very important for me as well but I can only give it my best effort,” said Ali in the end.
