The longest format of the game tests a player in almost every aspect. It has seen bowlers going full strength to take on the opposition and hit them for sixes. It is thus that the list of top 10 active players with most sixes has been dominated by bowlers. From premier Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc to New Zealand new ball bowler Tim Southee everyone features in the list.

It is perhaps the result of tailenders not sticking to the popping crease for too long and going all out to add vital runs on their team’s scoreboard. Premier Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc is 10th on the list of highest number of six-hitters among active players in Test cricket. The fiery Australian fast bowler has hit 41 sixes in Test career, which comes as an added advantage to him in the side. His fast bowling prowess are no stranger to the world as he can pick up crucial wickets from the onset of the match.

Steve Smith has been compared with Don Bradman in the longest format of the game. He averages a staggering over 65 in Tests. His unorthodox batting technique and footwork makes it difficult for the bowlers to knock him over. The premier Australian batsman has hit 42 sixes in his career thus far.

Veteran England fast bowler Stuart Broad has been instrumental with his performance with the ball. His pace and movement have troubled some of the finest batsmen with Australia opener David Warner being his recent bunny in the Ashes. But he has also played some significant knocks to add to the tally. Broad has hit 48 sixes in his career to take the eight spot among active test cricketers.

Ravindra Jadeja won’t spin the ball much but will still get you wickets. His straight deliveries have often proved difficult to be judged by the batsmen and thus he has proved to be a handful. In the middle order as well, he has played key knocks, and hit 50 sixes in the longest format, thus far.

6. Ross Taylor

Senior New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor is known to play his calm and composed knocks on top of the order. He is not an aggressor and occasionally likes to take charge at the bowlers. Taylor is not a batsman who will step out to hit a bowler frequently. He is sixth on the list and has 52 sixes to his name.

Rohit Sharma is not a regular for Team India in the longest format. But he likes to capitalise on any half chance served on his plate. He likes to pull the bowlers for a maximum and thus has recorded 52 sixes to his name — as many as Ross Taylor — but in lesser number of matches.

David Warner is an aggressor. He likes to take on the bowlers from the word go. He is one of the active batsmen for whom the format of the game. Warner has hit a few quick centuries even in the longest format of the game. It is the sixes and boundaries laced to the knocks that makes it look effortless. He has hit 56 sixes in the longest format so far.

Veteran Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews has seen a downward slope in his career. His performance has lacked consistency which has cost him the place in the Sri Lankan XI. Mathews, however, has contributed to the fore for the island nation. He has hit 61 sixes in the purest format of the game.

Senior fast bowler Tim Southee likes to make the ball do the talking. But when given an opportunity he has also launched attack on the opposition with his batting skills. Southee has hit 73 sixes in the longest format of the game, which makes him the second leading six-hitter, among the active players.

Ben Stokes is one of the fiercest all-rounder in the international circuit. His middle-order innings has often rescued the sinking ship of his national team. At Headingley, his flamboyant century helped England save the Ashes Test. Ben Stokes leads the chart with 74 sixes in the longest format of the game amongst active players.
