With doubts over MS Dhoni’s future further increasing in the wake of BCCI’s decision to drop the veteran from the central contract list, the board president Sourav Ganguly has refused to comment on his former teammate’s future. Earlier this week, the BCCI did not include the former India skipper in their 27-player list for the central contracts.

As soon as the contracts were announced, the fans started giving tribute to MS Dhoni, assuming that the wicketkeeper-batsman has played his last game for India. Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh only added fuel to the fire by claiming that MS Dhoni was set to retire at the end of last year’s World Cup and has thus made himself unavailable for selection.

But as of now, the only clarity regarding MS Dhoni is that there is no clarity. The World Cup-winner has not played for India since the end of the World Cup in July and is unlikely to play for the national team any time soon. In fact, he is unlikely to get any recall from the national selectors until and unless he proves himself in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).

India head coach Ravi Shastri has already hinted that MS Dhoni is unlikely to return to the ODI side. Shastri, however, claimed that Dhoni could return to the T20I side and could be in contention for the T20 World Cup if he does well in the IPL.

Sourav Ganguly on MS Dhoni:

Sourav Ganguly’s latest take on the future of MS Dhoni is bound to make the fans even more confused. Just a few weeks ago, Sourav Ganguly had insisted that there was ‘absolute clarity’ between the board and MS Dhoni. However, on Friday, he declined to utter a word when he was asked about his former teammate.

“I can’t comment on this,” Ganguly said in his straightforward response on Dhoni’s omission from the BCCI’s annual player retainers for 2019-20.

In November, he had said that there was “absolute clarity” between MS Dhoni and the BCCI regarding the wicketkeeper-batsman’s future.

“No, no, there is clarity,” Ganguly had told PTI. “There is absolute clarity on MS Dhoni and you’ll find out in time.

“There’s transparency between the board, MS and the selectors. When you deal with such champions – MS Dhoni is an unbelievable athlete for India – certain things have to be kept within the closed doors. It’s very transparent and everybody knows where they stand,” he added.
