India skipper Virat Kohli has become the latest high-profile name to use the term ‘three-dimensional’. The term has spread like wild fire ever since India’s chief selector MSK Prasad used that term. While explaining the reason behind choosing Vijay Shankar over Ambati Rayudu in the World Cup team, Prasad had said that the former made it to the squad because of being three-dimensional. Seemingly unimpressed with the explanation, Rayudu had taken a sly dig at Prasad by posting a cryptic tweet.

Rayudu, who made a comeback to the Indian team during last year’s Asia Cup, made his displeasure clear with an unpleasant message in public.

“Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup ??..,” Rayudu had written in his tweet.

Since then, the term has become the talk of the town. Recently, former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar used it too to praise Ravi Ashwin’s all round show in an IPL game. And Kohli has now used it too perhaps to make it clear that he fully agrees with Prasad. The India skipper threw his support behind Vijay Shankar’s inclusion, saying Shankar is ‘three-dimensional.

“We tried a lot of things. There were a few combinations that we tried,” Virat Kohli told India Today. “Eventually when Vijay came in, it was three dimensional: he can bowl, he can field, he can bat.

“He is a proper batsman as well. That just gave us an option, saying why not have that kind of balance which other teams have had all these years. From that point of view we all agreed on it,” he added.

Meanwhile, this year’s World Cup will see all the ten teams playing against each other once. The top four teams will then make it to the semifinals. The World Cup will start on May 30 with India opening their campaign on June 5 against South Africa.
