Age Doesn't Matter When You Play For Your Country - Wriddhiman Saha

Team India wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha has had a great resurgence to his Test career in the recently concluded series against South Africa. While he turned 35 a few days back, Saha feels age doesn’t come into the picture when someone is representing their country.

The Bengal-born cricketer broke into the side almost after 18 months due to an injury. Wriddhiman Saha made an immediate impact as he was outstanding behind the wicket. His outstanding display earned praise from all across the globe with many labelling him as the best keeper in the business.

However, Saha, who has witnessed a lot of ups and downs in his careers, has age on the wrong side. With 35 years of age, he has only a few years in his hands to play for India. But the cricketer doesn’t like to dwell on the age question.

“Whenever a player represents his country, he will give his hundred per cent. No matter if he is 40 years, 30 years, it doesn’t really matter. We all are trying to give our best to our country,” Saha said in a telephonic interview with The Sunday Guardian.

Meanwhile, Wriddhiman Saha is not at all flashy like the modern-day cricketers. He likes to keep it simple and focus on his business. Even at 35, he gave major wicket-keeping goals to the youngsters jumping both sides to grab acrobatic catches. Speaking on his formula, Saha revealed that all he focuses is on practice.

“Practice is all that matters. You have to be fearless even during your sessions. It’s not that you won’t give your full effort during practice and think that you will do well in matches,” he continues.

After an outstanding return against South Africa, Wriddhiman Saha will continue to keep wickets for India against Bangladesh. Looking at the upcoming series as an opportunity, Saha said that they will come out with the same intensity as they did against the Proteas.

“Playing against Bangladesh is a good opportunity for me. We will play with the same spirit that we showed in our series against South Africa,” he concluded.
